Nigel should now by now that we will get the spoilers. Geez. They have the mayors read the judges choice out in front of everyone.
Squinty:
Confirmed- Paula chose Billy Joel's " And So It Goes". Carmen Rasmussen did this back in season two and it got her voted off. I don't know what is goign through Paula's head, frankly. This song is one of Billy Joel's simplest love songs, and one I love when he sings it. It does not lend itself well to vocal runs. Squinty will have to sing it simply in order for it to work. Maybe with the Dadager gone, the vocal coaches can tell him less is sometimes more.
Rumor is that Squinty is choosing Dan Fogelberg's " Longer". No word yet on Producer's choice. " Longer" and " And So It Goes" are both ballads. If the producers pick another one, Squinty will put me to sleep.
SySy:
Confirmed-Randy picks Alicia Keys " If I Ain't Got You", which could be lovely. The fact is, Alicia is one of those artists I actually discourage from ever putting her songs on Idol. Think of all those massacred version of " Fallin'" we have heard over the years. Another ballad (seriously?). I think SySy is at her best when she's upbeat and having fun, because her tendency to be off key is hidden by her exuberance.
No confirmation on her song choice or producer's choice.
Sexy:
Mmmmm. My man.
Confirmed-Simon went and picked " The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". The most famous version of this song is by Roberta Flack, but it was written by English folk legend Ewan McColl back in the 60s. There have been versions by Marianne Faithfull, Johnny Cash, Alison Moyet, and Stereophonics, among others. So this song is actually not as unusual a choice as one might originally think. We know Simon is looking at David to do what he can and bring us a version that totally fits his style.
Confirmed-David let slip on TV Friday that his song choice is " The World I Know" by Collective Soul. I have loved this song for years, so I'm so happy he picked it.
Rumor is that the Producer's picked "American Woman" for David to sing. If this is true, I'm happy, because I love the Lenny Kravitz version of the song. I love the original, too. the only place I've seen it discussed at length, though, is on IdolForums, and I haven't seen anything to confirm it officially, so I'm chalking that one up as rumor until I get some kind of press confirmation. I'll also update as need be.
Oh, and to remind everyone- David Cook is hot, even while wearing a Kansas City Royals uniform, which makes this Red Sox fan a little annoyed, but it's something I can live with.
Hot.
ETA: MJ's Big Blog is now reporting the Producer's have chosen " Longer" for Squinty. Poor kid.
ETA again: Squinty chose Chris Brown's " With You". Snooze alert.
ETA again again: Syesha's songs according to Syeshaftw on MJ's Big Blog :
Randy's Choice: If I Ain't Got You
SySy's choice- Fever ( you knew she'd pick a song sung a million times by auditioners and finalists alike. And she's going to wreck it, you know she will.)
Producer's- Hit Me Up ( this was apparently on the Happy Feet soundtrack and sung by someone named Gia Farrell. That's two songs from this century. Makes me question if " American Woman" really is DC's song.)
ETA again again again: TMZ has just posted. Squinty was right on. So was SySy. But my man changed his mind. His songs- The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Dare You To Move by Switchfoot ( me likey that song, too), and I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing by Aerosmith. I'm not sure which of the two last songs is DC's choice, and which is Nigel's, but I like both of them.

Word to that, Palais. He's Very. Damn. Hot. I might have to start paying attention to baseball, too?
I was just mulling elsewhere that David Cook can do the same sort of thing to 'The First Time' that he did to 'Hello', rock it with a slightly emo version. And when he gives us his bedroom eyes and sings, '...my love...' at the end of the verse, EVERY woman with a pulse will throw themselves at the television, and then at their telephones. Or computers, in my case.
After we collect ourselves, of course. I'm trembling a little just anticipating.
palais 05/11/08
Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES!!!!!!!!!!
And why weren't you paying attention to baseball already?
Sorry, I know it's very un-Canadian of me, but I'd rather watch a Red Sox- Cubs World series than a Canadiens-Maple Leafs Stanley cup Final.
I might have to adjust and become a Royals fan... screw it, Red Sox Nation, unite!
ariadne 05/11/08
Hmmmmmm...I used to watch MLB in the days of Blue Jays supremacy, but other stuff takes my attention these days.
As for hockey...I'm from the days of 6 and 12 teams, so I don't get the NHL anymore. I like Sidney Crosby because he's from here, and the World juniors or something are happening in Halifax right now too.
Actually the only sport I watch these days is Equestrian.
And David Cook. Yum. Someone else on another board was talking about weaning herself off for a couple of days so as to savour Tuesdave night, but I can't do that. I must have played My Hero *mumble* times....actually, I have 45 different songs from David Cook on an iTunes playlist, (some are just 1 minute 30 performances from the show, but others are from Analog Heart, Axium, Midwest Kings, and Friday's Cook Day, so I have nearly 3 hours of His Hotness serenading me while I work.
palais 05/11/08
I've played " My Hero" *mumble* times myself. And Analog Heart is currently my most played album. You know I'm listening to something 24-7 when it surpasses London Calling on my I Pod.
I still watch the Jays. I'm a diehard baseball fan from way back. My brother was all about hockey, and it got tiresome trying to keep up, so I became a baseball geek instead. My high school boyfriend was a baseball player.
But I'm very Canadian. I watch curling and enjoy it. My kids think I'm weird. Which I am. But the Alberta teams have been awesome.
And I haven't watched hockey since the Flames were bounced in the first round.

You two crack me up. Personally, I've had a Cookie-free weekend. Well, except for you guys. CAN. NOT. WATCH. COOKIE.... and still break up with him... in 10 DAYS!!! DETOX, DETOX!
palais 05/11/08
You missed some great stuff. I now have the MP3 of him singing " My Hero", : Living On A Prayer", Axium doing " Creep"...
Yeah, no Cookie free weekend here.
ariadne 05/11/08
Me neither. I love 'Creep'...also 'Hunger Strike' with Midwest Kings (he does the counterpoint, not the lead) and a bunch of other delicious stuff. Drool. I'm not ever breaking up with him! Might go into withdrawl between the end of the show and his touring career...
palais 05/11/08
Noooooo...
At least there will be at least a week of solid press. I am sending the day home kiddies away after this week and working outside the home for the first time in years, so late night tv is going to be interesting... but I will catch everything, damn it!
And then comes all the YouTube vids and MP3s and online crap...
This might be my other full time job.
Scarlett 05/11/08
Uh Oh Palais......we may have a situation.....I am a Yankees fan =)
I also love hockey........especially the Sabres (even though that may have just given away my secret location)
Anyway off of sports, back to Sexy......where did you guys get an mp3 of Hero?......please share!!!
Iluvcookies 05/11/08
Ugh...I am a lifelong Cubs fan who has always had an obsession for boys in baseball uniforms..especially the cap. First thing I see this morning? My rock star fantasy wearing a Royals uniform...including CAP. OMG. That was my mother's day present to myself. Printed that B**ch off and it will be adorning my cubicle walls tomorrow morning. I can no longer hide or contain my obsession.
And I do not have the strength to fight it.
JWG 05/11/08
happy mom's day, all--
i've been out of town and away from my laptop--which is now fried and out of commission for I don't know how long. I'm borrowing my hubbies for. I managed to go almost two days DC-less (except for iPod), and it was rough. I kept trying to talk about him to my in -laws, but they just don't get it. Wanna hear the amazing news, though--I was in KANSAS CITY--just a day after DC was there and a stones throw away from his hometown. ARGHH.
cookiemonster 05/11/08
ooh JWG, that's painful. Kinda like baking brownies & not being able to eat any.
palais 05/11/08
Scarlett, go to the David Cook forum on Television Without Pity. Page 362, #5427. The boards have a lot of links to MP3s ( including " Creep" if you want it- and you should!), YouTubes, pics... it's a treasure trove. I'm taking my time going backwards and finding stuff I hadn't seen or heard yet.
I forgive Yankee fans for the errors of their ways all the time. And Cubs rule the universe with the Red Sox.
I became a Cubs and Red Sox fan because of the patheticness of their history. Then the Red Sox won the World Series, and I realized my team winning made me happy. Cubs will have to win it someday!
palais 05/11/08
JWG- sadness. But still cool.
Bitten 05/11/08
Damn ALL OF YOU to Everlasting Hell!!! I am a total sucker for a guy in a baseball uniform (Braves fan here). Doncha know nevah, evah to offer a junkie crack? It's just wrong!!!! So.......... I had to go look. Dayum, I want me some of THAT.
Bitten 05/11/08
So now, how am I supposed to break up with him in 10 days, huh? HUH? HUH? Didja think about that?
palais 05/11/08
Hey, not my problem! You wanted to break up with him. I'm perfectly happy to drag you back into this depraved little world we have so I'm not so alone in my obvious stalkerish feelings for the guy.
palais 05/11/08
I still luv you, gurl, you know that, right?
Bitten 05/11/08
Luv you too, gurl. You traitorous ****.
Bitten 05/11/08
I'm tired of this Board killin my funnies!!! Let's try again. You traitorous B!T@H.
