It's the day I have been waiting four agonizing months for. The Idol Finale.
I'm actually blogging this while watching. Just so you know. It's on the Pacific coast feed, and solidarity forever to my West Coast Sistahs in the Den. I know, I know... the rest of them already know. Hell, you may know, too. Just don't spoil it for me.
First off, my man looked fine all in white, didn't he? Ew, group number. Cheesy. And those SYTYCD dancers? Hotness.
Did anyone else get nauseous watching that camera jump around?
Chad Kroeger, who grew up in a town an hour and a half away from me, wrote " Hero" for the Spiderman soundtrack and recorded it with Saliva guru Josey Scott. Nigel reported on RyRy's show this A.M. that David Cook suggested it after a Simon and Garfunkel song was scuttled. And guess who sounded good on that song? Not Archie, that's for sure.
Fact- I proclaim to hate Nickelback, but I have two songs by them on my IPod. And " Hero" is a pretty good song. And I liked the song tonight, even with Gaspy gasping all over it. And the fact there was a patch where neither one of them could keep in key towards the end.
PROMO!!!! The Love Guru. ( Confession- I love Mike Myers and will watch him in almost anything. I'm sad and pathetic.)
SYSY!!!! And she's singing with Seal! Awesomeness. Seal's hot. Not Cook hot, but hot enough.
Jason doesn't get a duet partner- he gets to sing "Hallelujah". Wise choice, Nigel. He sounds better tonight than he did Top 16 week. Ans he hit the note he screwed up the first time. Amazing and beautiful. I'm so glad I remembered to download that.
Ford gives each of our boys a free car. Whoot!
The six girls come out and sing to Donna Summer's greatest hits. Than Donna herself ( looking good) comes out and sings, and it all ends in " Last Dance" glory. I love that song. I am losing all credibility, aren't I?
Best song ever? " Beat On The Brat" by the Ramones.

Carly! Michael! Alex Chilton!
Wait, they cleared an Alex Chilton song in " the Letter" and couldn't clear " Crazy" for anyone? Really? Wow. Alex Chilton is crazier than almost everyone else in music. And Carly oversang it. Michael was perfect to see and hear.
Jimmy Kimmel comes out and makes some "jokes". I love Mike Myers, you'd think I would find Jimmy funny. Only when he's f***ing Ben Affleck, I guess.
The Top 6 guys... Jason cannot sing Bryan Adams. DC sings the opening line for " Heaven" and I had a mini eargasm. " Heaven" is my wedding song if I ever get married again... wow, that was an awkward transition from the two Davids to the six of them. Find a key and stick with it guys. And their voices don't mesh well together... BRYAN ADAMS!!!!!! Awesomeness! I love Bryan Adams. Considering CanCon laws, it's no surprise, because all they played on the radio when I was a kid was Bryan Adams and Loverboy.
His Hawtness with ZZ Top!!!!!!! " Sharp Dressed Man"!!!!!! I think my eargasms have stopped and moved... elsewhere. I saw tattoo! And I love the new guitar, DC. Love it, love it, loooooove it.
Graham Nash joins Brooke for a serviceable version of " Teach Your Children". Sweet and pleasant, just like Brooke. I always preferred David Crosby's songs to Graham Nash's. Just saying.
I have a preteen daughter who wants to marry Joe Jonas ( or was it Nick?) I have to admit, the Jonas Brothers are about what NKOTB were on their first album... kinda bland, kinda non threatening, kinda ear shattering ( not them, but the girls...). "SOS" is their best song- it is catchy. It's an earworm. I've been humming it involuntarily for months. Doesn't mean I like it. Sad thing- I knew what it was from the opening chord.
Now comes the worst- the I'm Your Brother guy, his hat, and apparently he brought the USC Marching Band and cheerleaders with him. Ugh.
One Republic is now singing " Apologize", and Archie just joined them. Archie has a better voice than Ryan Tedder. Just want to point that out. Pretty, and I like the song, but not IPod worthy.
Jordin Sparks, reigning Idol champ, comes out in some dress that resembles a golden dish towel and sings. I still would prefer she was on vocal rest. You should really take a couple of months off for that kind of vocal injury.
Video clip- The funny bit that actually worked- Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr as the Pips. I killed myself laughing over it.
Up comes Carrie Underwood, looking pretty ( except for that white floaty thing joining her sleeves together- WTF is up with the fashion disasters, girls?) The song- it's no " Before He Cheats", that's for sure. BHC is one of the top twenty most played songs on the IPOD. The old one, not the new one. I got the new one earlier this week and have only listened to DC and watched DC on it.
The best Top 12 performance of the night was the George Michael one, but I'm a huge George Michael fan ( huge huge huge HUGE!) Did any of you other girls let out a noise resembling orgasmic pleasure when David Cook stared into the camera and sang " Till the end of time"? I sure did.
Whoo! I need a shower. And a stiff drink. And DC. Now.
And so, here it is. The moment I have been waiting for all season. And Ryan, with his expert torture techniques finally announces... that...the... American... Idol...2008.. is... David...
COOK!!!!!!
I just picked myself up off the floor. My poor baby is crying, and at a loss for words, and there is his mom and brother and...
I'm going to go and cry now.
I think that winner's song is utter crap, but I love him so much I'll buy it ASAP. Hopefully 19 grabs his music and gives it a proper release as well.
That's it, folks. It's all over. I start Canadian Idol on June 3. I have no life of which to speak of.

Awesome, wasn't it, palais. I too had multiple eargasms, made all the sweeter by all the tears everyone was shedding. Even hubby, who had gone to bed before I got home, left me a note saying "DC won by 12 million votes. Woo hoo!" Then he got back up when he heard me having hysterics over the Go Down Moses (let my pipple GOOHHHHHH!) guy, and watched the rest of it with me. And teared up too.
Damn, skippy. Sometimes, there ARE happy endings.

Just a couple of things I noted last night.
1. Do you think Carly wears those tights because her legs are as tattooed as her arms? Maybe she or the producers figured America can only handle two overly tattooed appendages at a time?
2. My husband and I swear that Archbot had a different mom at the beginning of the season then he does now. Maybe Crazy Dad replaced her with a more attractive minority version to drum up votes. I'm just saying.
3. Was Carrie Underwood wearing anything under that shirt/jacket/dress? I kid you not, my husband and I were both laying at the end of our bed face up trying to get a peak to see. We're odd like that.
The best man won. Brooke should tour with Crosby, Stills and Nash. Jason made me cry, again. MJ and Carly should never ever perform without the other one. I'm glad it's all over.

I'm so with ya on the Pips skit. Lurved it. My husband even re-watched the whole shebang with me on the big screen after the kiddos went to bed.
True story - and disturbing now that I think about it - my 8 year old daughter sighed when I tucked her in last night, "my cookie won!" I looked at her and said "yeah, isn't that great?" and then she said - "mmm, chocolate chip cookie."
ARGH.

Hi Cookiemonster, i`m right here,i`ll face the music,it was a great win for David Cook and all his fans.I never once said that Cookie did not have talent.My opinion was that we have enough rock stars out there and that we could use a fresh new American Idol star,like David Archuleta,i guess i was wrong.We will have to settle for just another screaming,guitar playing rocker,instead of hearing some class music sung by a class guy.Hope this is valuable enough for you.

Great stuff, palais. I so wish I could have seen you when Ryan read that name. Here in Iowa, I was hugging myself and crying, rocking back and forth. Today at work, I was actually smiling, mostly because I had instant replay going in my head the whole mornin'. And Guitar Hero is now my hero for giving us that commercial. Oh MY!
