It may have aired ages ago (well, last Monday), but someone has to talk about the season finale of Gossip Girl, and I'm more than happy to oblige!
After last week's shady Georgina taking off with Dan antics, it wasn't too shocking to see that Serena hadn't slept--or stopped calling Dan--all night. Good thing she finally broke down and went over to his place; after all, everyone loves a good catfight in the morning. Also a little less than shocking (and not just because they showed it in the previews) was watching Lily wake up in bed with Rufus--on her wedding day, no less. I think the only shocking morning after we got was the Blair/Chuck version, perhaps because it was the only one they hadn't been setting up for the past few weeks. Pushing the two of them together may have been a little rushed and random, but in my opinion, Blair and Chuck made this episode great, both together and apart. More on that later.
I feel like I need to give some brief attention to the Archibald clan--but seriously, brief. I never liked Nate's dad and didn't miss seeing him, so when the pair were out running I groaned a little, and when the crap with him fleeing the country unfolded, I groaned a little more. On the bright side, I think it'll force Nate to man up as well as make it considerably less likely that he'll end up at Dartmouth--good news for him and Dan, who is clearly the dumbest person ever.
I'll give Dan a little bit of credit for not sucking, if only for aiding in the carting off of Georgina. Still, even though he ventured into manipulative liar territory, this was really Blair's place to shine. And I'm pretty sure her line was not only the best of the episode but of the series so far and just encapsulates everything Gossip Girl is all about--"Haven't you heard? I'm the crazy **** around here!". Wonder how long G will last at boot camp...I can't help but hope she'll stick to her bad girl ways. I mean, someone has to!
That someone sure can't be Serena, who was basically nonstop miserable the entire episode. Of course, who could blame her--she's 17 and after thinking she killed someone was forced to lie about everything thanks to being blackmailed by a "manipulative psycho ****!". And while Serena claimed to have cheated on Dan, she was only lying to push him away lest he get wrapped up in her scandal. Dan, on the other hand, was dumb enough to make out (and then some) with a girl he barely knows mere hours after kind of breaking up with Serena. You'd think someone with Ivy league aspirations might be smart enough to know that rebounds never end well, but Dan seems to think his man-wh0ring is Serena's fault, thus the breakup and subsequent dancing to Death Cab for Cutie (wouldn't be a Josh Schwartz finale without an indie rock montage!) Not quite as tragic as "Hallelujah" at the end of The O.C.'s first season, but still pretty potent.
On the happier dancing front, it was nice to see Chuck tell Blair that "didn't belong with Nate. Never have, never will" and her oh so true "You don't belong with anybody". Awww, young love! Nice toast to the happy couple as well. I'm glad Lily went through with marrying Bart-it's where she belongs, and makes any future dalliances with Rufus nice and dirty.
So as far as really interesting things go, that's about it up until the "1 Week Later" at the end. I can't help but notice that every other frakking show has been pulling this fast-forward crap lately (looking at you, 30 Rock!), so I was pretty apprehensive. Luckily, it was pretty decent and only included one terrible offense. I don't care that this show is targeted at teenagers--no one is dumb enough to believe that little 15 year old Jenny Humphrey could possibly get an internship with Parsons, conveniently with Eleanor Waldorf (does anyone remember if little J and B's mom got along? I'd think not). Besides that, Rufus is on tour and I don't care, Nate and Vanessa broke up (oh, shocker!), Dan and Vanessa have nothing better to do all summer but paint her apartment (shouldn't Dan get a job? Unlike his Constance Billard peers, he actually needs to save for college), Serena is trying to not act depressed and will probably bang Nate again. Whatever.
Chuck is taking Blair to Tuscany! How romantic! She even wants to frisk him! I do love this polar-opposite couple, but not as much as I loved what happened when Mr. Bass talked to Chuck about the responsibility of having a real girlfriend. As soon as he saw that young blonde tailing Lily, Blair's roses were in the trash and Chuck hit on her, delivering my second favorite line like the perfect scoundrel he is "I'm Chuck Bass". Ah, some things never change, and I'd never want them to. Meanwhile, Blair hopped a helicopter with a hottie from the Bass marketing team. It's shaping up to be a hot summer--and I can't wait til September 1st when we get a taste of Hamptons living, Gossip Girl style. Until then, what did the rest of you think? Anyone else love this finale as much as me?

Aside from too much Serena and Dan (And not nearly enough Eric. Hello! He's a recently de-closeted hottie. Why no date to Lily and Rufus' wedding?), I adored the GG finale. And Chuck and Blair were sheer perfection, right up to and including his monogamy/responsibility freak out and her doing the Blair reality denial thing and flying off with Mr. Jumpseat. How much do I hope that we have Blair-centric fun next season? About as much as I hope that they can find a way to seal off all the subways in Brooklyn so that Dan and Vanessa will be trapped in the wilderness where they belong. Rufus is exempt because he's on tour and he needs to be around to rattle Lily's cage. Little J is exempt so long as she brings the bitca back out to play. Our little kitty Blair needs a nice plushie toy to play with.
Oh, and l completely agreed with everything in your blog except "I'm Chuck Bass" is the. single. best. line. uttered on TV this season.
