Rejoice, reality TV show fans! "The Mole" is back!
When ABC announced that they ordered a new season of "The Mole", I was thrilled. Much like my favorite show, "The Amazing Race", "The Mole" is a well-designed show that regularly gets low ratings. It's a shame, because there are few other shows as well crafted.
In case you have no idea how "The Mole" works, let me break it down for you. There are 12 contestants. They all must work together to accomplish a series of tasks, each of which are worth a certain amount of money. One of the 12 is a plant by the producers called The Mole, and that person's goal is to cause the team to lose as much money as possible. At the end of each week's episode, everyone takes a quiz about The Mole's identity. Whoever scores the lowest is "executed."
We the audience have the task of figuring out who is The Mole based on events in the episode as well as subtle clues that are hidden for us alone. This makes The Mole unique from other reality programs as we're a part of the action. Just as the other contestants are analyzing everything, so are we. Just look at the ABC message board for the show; already there are multiple threads replete with theories about the identity of The Mole.
If you've ever wanted to be a counterintelligence agent, "The Mole" is as close as you're gonna get. Take a look and get sucked in to one of the best shows on TV this summer.
