Benjamin Linus was a special kid. John Locke was a special kid.
Walt is a special kid.
With last week's season finale of Lost in mind, seeing Ben's banishment from the island, Locke becoming leader of the others, and Walt experiencing puberty, not to mention Ben's plan for the Oceanic 6 to return to the island with a DEAD John Locke (who I am not convinced in any way is truly deceased), I have conjured a maybe-not-so-original theory (I did think on this, but I can't be sure no one's said it before): Walt will become the heir to the others' throne, just behind his own mentor, John Locke.
Conditions are right: Locke's dead, Michael's dead, and Jack gets his wish: they get to go back. Once he convinces each of them to return with him (which will only produce an episode's worth of an obstacle, I believe), Walt will manage to tag along. Of course, Ben didn't say that they couldn't bring another guest with them; just as long as Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sun (and Jin???), Aaron, Sayid, and Jeremy/Locke go back.
I've connected the dots the best I can, and this is as sure as I've been about a hunch. We're never really sure, though, are we?
"Yes, what DO I mean??"

I've been thinking the same thing, and going back and forth on where Aaron factors into this equation, because I know that he must. I think it's possible that Aaron would be the Jack to Walt's Locke, though if that's the case then I'm not sure why Claire would be so adamant about him not being brought back. Perhaps it's the other way around? After all, it's looking like Jack has to go back to do what he does best--fix things. Maybe if Aaron goes back, he'll screw up the island as bad as Locke apparently does, and Walt has to fix it. Or the other way around. No matter what, I'm convinced the two are foils to each other.

Ah, Aaron. Now that is a whole new post...
Thanks for your input, Counteragent.

I agree. I think that Aaron is the Ben (being the younger of the 2) and Walt is the Locke. Ben somehow brought Aaron to the island thinking to groom him as the next leader. However, when he crashed the plane to get Aaron he also got Walt/Locke who are also contenders for the title. I think it will be a power struggle and I would be surprised not to find Walt right in the middle of it.
