femme final...

first, let me express my joy that stephanie took home the title of top chef last night! YAY! no gonna lie, at first, i was sure she had it in the bag, but then when the judges' deliberation began and they were praising lisa, i got a little scared for my girl, but was there ever any doubt that steph would win it all? no sir! (or ma'am)

but with her win she not only gets the $100,000 prize and the feature in food and wine magazine, (which, by the way, i have yet to see on the magazine rack, though it'd be an interesting read, i'm sure) but the distinction of becoming the first female top chef. ever! that's a pretty big thing, and to be honest, i'm not sure lisa could have handled it, let alone the rest of the world, had she won. maybe antonia...

anyways, this reality tv season, it seems that the women are coming into their own and finally getting the recognition they so clearly deserve. now don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that women winning reality shows are few and far between or that a man winning is far more plausible than a woman winning, but it just seems that in some cases, top chef being one, the women have clearly exceded their male counterparts, yet come up short, so it's nice to see women FINALLY come out on top!

another prime example was kristi yamaguchi on dancing with the stars. hands down the best from the very beginning, earning a perfect score earlier than anyone ever in the history of the show! it was so great to see her take home the trophy after four seasons of male winners. (i still think mel b. was robbed last season!)

another four-season male-winning stint was on survivor. aras (exile island), yul (cook islands), earl (fiji), and todd (china) all too the title, leaving danni (guatemala) as the most recent female winner back in 2005. thankfully the ladies of micronesia took charge and dominated the game, getting rid of all who stood in their way, and they happened to be all men. ozzy, jason, erik, and even one of their own, alexis fell victim to the coven of natalie, cirie, amanda and the eventual and very much deserving (no matter what anyone says) winner, parvati!

now here's hoping for a lady designer to follow in the footsteps of chloe dao and win project runway! and since we can't get dustin and kandice back for a THIRD time, hopefully another pair of tough chicks can cross the finish line first in the amazing race! hey, it could happen.
