What has happened to TV? I personally blame Seinfeld. Wait a minute before you all post comments about what a great show Seinfeld was. I agree I never missed an episode I love it from the beginning. But Seinfeld was a hit in three episodes. Now everything has to hit right away or it is gone. Television is a slow play. It takes time to understand and care about the characters. We watch these shows because we want to see how they deal with the myriad of problems that face each of us in our world. Here is my top five favorite cancelled shows.
5) Hawaii : the new Hawaii 5.0. We were in paradise Michael Been played the hardened veteran detective who lived on the island for quite a while. His partner a rookie cop played by Eric Balfour, I always enjoy his work from the Buffy premiere to the remake of Chainsaw. They had good stories and diverse types of crime to deal with. Always something big and catastrophic mixed with something a little more light hearted. I do not think this one made a full season.
4) Studio sixty on the sunset strip : think west wing on the west coast. this show followed the production of a live sketch comedy show. It had all the intelligence and humor of the first three seasons of west wing. This should have been a hit. The west wing was constrained by what you could actually do in government. This was Hollywood. The rules do not exist. There could have been no limit to what this show could achieve. They jumped out to fast I think. Season one we had a pregnancy between to characters we hardly knew. That should not have come about until season 3 at best. One character dealing with addiction to pain killers. This would have made an excellent cliffhanger for the end of season one. They dealt with it and it was gone. Some writing errors but the show was excellent I even enjoyed Amanda Peet as a studio exec trying to keep the comedy alive and keep it on budget and profitable.
3) Freaks and geeks : perfect look at America in the 1980's. this show was set in a small town in 1980 and revolved around a group of high school students. Some were freshmen and some were juniors, probably not there first go round. This series was from Jud Apitow and entire crew is here. Ten episodes was all we got . This is another one I wanted more from.
2) Fast lane : this is the show I commonly referred to as Miami Vice 2.0. It had everything. Solid music tracks, fast cars, witty banter between partners and of course hot chicks. This show was poised to take the world in season two but was never given the chance to make it happen. The cliffhanger of season one still has me wondering what would have happened next.
1) Jericho : this was a great show. One of the best to come along in a long time. Why nobody watched this I will never understand. This was a perfect Saturday night a t nine show. It had drama action and yes history and government lessons, I wonder if that was the problem. The show followed residents of a small town trying to survive after a devastating terror attack. The character interaction was excellent. The writing was a little off episodically, they rushed into season two material at the end of season one and of course season two was filled with season three material. This show is one of those you have to give a three season commitment to. The audience will find it. I continually scratch my head wondering how so much junk stays on he air but a good solid show like this gets thrown by the wayside.

I agree about Fastlane. That was a kick *** show! Not having a season 2 & not knowing what happened after the season one finale SUCKED! They shouldve given it more of a chance. Just another REALLY good show cut down before it could get a wider audience.

Oh - another thing about Fastlane for the ladies...the guys were HOT too! It was an "eye-candy" show both my hubby & I could enjoy! Plus the music was great!

It really doesn't make any sense. Jericho, or at least the two episodes I saw, was excellent, especially compared to most of what's on TV now. It's shocking to look at the TV guide to see all the junk on primetime. You bring up a great point. But YOU, America, should be ashamed.

Ugh, I'm still lamenting Jericho's loss. Season one may not have been a home run because of some dull plots and several hard-to-care-for protagonists, but the winter (2nd) half really showed its potential. Season 2, despite its rushed timeline, proved that the show deserved a longer run. The fact that CBS continues to support derivative crime dramas over Jericho (even during the show's advertising) only proves that they didn't give a crap.
