SYTYCD- Top 16: And the best couple is...

Cat Deeley; yummy factor of about an 8.9 tonight- yowza! She kind of had a Heather Graham from Boogie Nights thing going on last night, but classier. Guest judge this time was Adam "Shankers" (love it) who, really, reminded me of that Bruno guy from Dancing with the Stars. To take a look at some really fine footwork, Nigel suggested watching some old movie classics. Singin' In the Rain was his best suggestion, though I also reccomend checking out Fred Astaire in Top Hat.

On to the dances.

Twitch and Kherrington:

Hip-hop

Once again, I thought the hip hop choreography was really weak. Some cutsey stuff, like the faces and the edge of the stage, but you can find better stuff on America's Best Dance Crew. (shameless plug). Nigel had no negatives. Mary Squealed. Ugh. But I still love these two kids. Kherington is adorable, and becoming a crush of mine. B-

Courtney and Gev:

Rumba

Gev got a little treat in that he got to grope Courntey's butt all week. Sometimes I think the dancers should all live in a house together Real World style. The number was lovely and Courtney looked smokin' hot in that dress. Adam rambled again but this time  everyone teased about how he can't shut up.  Fun. B

Comfort and Chris:

Jazz

No one could quite pinpoint it, but I think I get why this routine didn't work for anyone. You can't do African dance to Marylin Manson! What a poor song choice. The judges wanted it to be more "animalistic." I agree. More primal. Comfort did her best, but I think she needs a better partner- Chris couldn't sell hip hop, and now he can't sell aggression. C

Jessica and Will:

Disco

Jessica keeps taking heat, but again, I thought she held her own. Will really impressed me though, and sold everything. All in all I thought it was quite good, considering the difficulty level. The first few lifts and spins were great, the last few lifts and spins were not. Especially the finish. B+

Kourtni and Matt:

Contemporary

New choreographer Sonya, the Mohawk freak! It was a comic book theme that was funky but cool. I think both of their strengths were really highlighted. Mary hooted and hollered some more. Adam wasn't into Matt's ninja mask, but all said and done, it was a great routine. B

Chelsea and Thayne:

Quickstep

Chelsea missed a lot of steps. The judges were more concerned with presentation. Nigel nailed it- no personality. They were like bouncy robots. "Better get your solos ready." Oooooh! Thayne was the better of the two. The best thing about the dance was Chelsea's dress.  C+

Chelsie and Mark:

Hip-hop

Pretty sick. Did Nigel diss America's Best Dance Crew? (the "real" number one dance show?) Adam made excellent points. This show has the rare ability to explore lyrical hip-hop and really examine that genre as an art form. Well said. The choreography was the star here. The kids did fine, but could you imagine if Comfort or Joshua got to do this instead? A-

Katee and Joshua:

Samba

They nailed another routine! That's 3 in a row, so as of right now, they are the BEST couple on the show. I didn't really notice the technical stuff because they really burned up the stage! Katee might not feel very sexy, but that dress sure helped! You would think Josh was a sambo dancer cause he owned it. Mary squealed. People cheered. Josh's dad shook his bum. A

My predictions for bottom 3:

Courtney and Gev- I get the feeling viewers aren't connecting with them.

Comfort and Chris- it was an awful number and they are going to pay for it.

Chelsea and Thayne- getting the worst reviews of the night won't help any.

Wild card: Kherington and Twitch- It just wasn't very memorable.
