SYTYCD - Cirque du Mark

Y'all, I'm just now able to form coherent thoughts again after having my mind sincerely and utterly blown by the opening group number from last week's SYTYCD.  Mia unleashed a masterpiece on us, kittens.  It was a Depp/Burton/Tom Petty's Don't Come Around Here No More video/cracked out Alice in Wonderland fantasia and it rocked me like a hurricane.  I will confess that Mia's choreo can sometimes be too "crunchy" for me and there are pieces from her that I have absolutely hated.  (Dead Daddy Dance and, if I'm being honest, I never thought the Heidi/Travis bench dance was all that.  Sacrilege!)  But when homeslice is on, she is fierce!  The Imogen Heap top 6 dance from S2 and the shirtless Danny group dance have been my two favorite pieces from her (with the S1 Melody/Ashle Message in a Bottle piece a very close #2).  But this last dance just puts them all in the ground.  It was so innovative, so unexpected, intricate movement and a total mind freak.  And Mark and his minions were pure fire!!

Now, we all know how much I looooove Mark.  And he owned this dance from start to finish.  He goes so deep into the characters he is dancing.  He was amazing in this, acting through his dance out to the very tips of each follicle of slickly greased hair underneath that top hat.  And he looked so yummy.  I wanted to lick him and then feel bad about it cause he was totally creepy and icky.  But I must also give props to the other kids, who worked that stage for all it was worth.  Chelsie doing the weird stilt leg walk thing without stilts?  Gev almost out creeped Mark in this piece, especially the tag at the end on the stairs.  I admit, I did not care too much for the Comfort thumb sucking interlude (the only part of the piece I just found too literal) but girlfriend committed 1000% and sold it for all the creepy kink it was worth.  And the kids stayed in character right up through the very end as Cat strode onto the stage in her upside down cocktail napkin/seashell dress.

Yes, friends and fans, Cat was once again holding it down for fashion misfits everywhere.  (And she didn't even have Mary, who looked almost . . . normal, as her trusty accomplice in crazy couture).  And the Shankdaddy was delightful once again.  I know there are some who find him a little tough to take, but I have completely forgiven him for any Danny related transgressions.  And the show paid homage to Cyd Charise, as they should.  Diva!  And it gave Nigel a chance to remind everyone, yet again, that despite his general uselessness as a judge, he actually does have some credentials to be up there.

And there were some people that left, but with my all seeing eye, I already knew who they'd be before the show even started.  Seriously, kittens, I think I'm going to take off doing a B3/going home prediction this week because my streak's gotta end some time.  I want to walk away while I'm hot.  Big Pasty's solo was just as boring and heavy and, yes, Virginia, personality-less as always.  I haven't checked the tape, but I could swear that Chelsea did the same solo that she trotted out the last time she was in the B3 - minus the wearing of her partner's unmentionables.  Thayne gets a big "Oh no you di'in't!" for spending half of his 30 seconds running up and down the stairs on the stage.  Comfort was worlds better this week, but she still needs to pick it up.  Matt had flawless technique and still managed to be boring.  And Kourtni once again was the only one who put something that looked like a choreographed piece on the floor.

Chelsea and Big Pasty, as you go off into that great beyond, find solace in the fact that you participated in maybe the single. greatest. group. dance. OF ALL TIME!  If you'll excuse me, I think I spotted another little smidge of my brain over in the corner.  Gotta stuff it all back in before Wednesday so I can concentrate on the new Comfort/Thayne train wreck.
