Cancellation Salvation and the Oscars.

Cancellation Salvation- I think it all really started with Jericho this past summer. By "it" i mean the fans rallying together to save a show by sending in various items to the networks. Nuts for Jericho, Mars Bars for Veronica Mars, Sunflower seeds for the 4400, Footballs for FNL,  even a huge party thrown for Everwood, all the major online campaigns for Angel and Firefly and now baby booties for Las Vegas?? I think it should be encouraged to save shows and sometimes it works i.e.-Jericho and Roswell, but i think sometimes its just hopeless. At what time do you think people should give up, if they should at all? And when do you think its just plain stupid (for instance, i think its stupid, given the bad ratings and no critical support las vegas gets, to even suggest a campaign, and even though i love Veronica Mars,  its kinda fuitless when after they announce cancellation, you hhave to relaunch a campaign, even though they had done it every year since AND the creator said they were done.

Oscars:

Surprises:

Marion Coutillard- triumphing over the Julie Christie juggernaut and making an awesome speech? win well deserved.

Tilda Swinton- can you say Dark Horse? but yeah the speech was funny, especially the mentioning for Clooney's work in the crapfest Batman &Robin (the nipples reference was so funny!)

Once- those two irish singers overcoming the Enchanted juggernaut to win Best Song (Amy Adams was boring, Thats how you know was tacky and horrendous, though Kristin Chenoweth did good with the vocals, and the raspy singing guys voice got tedious after a while) and the two singers were both so humble. I want that song on my itunes STAT! loved john stewarts "wow, that guy is so arrogant" comment after they left

No Shock:

No Country Kills it- Picture, Director, adapted SCreenplay, Supporting Actor, and two other things i cant remember. Whatever, it was theirs to lose right?

Daniel Day Lewis- I wouldve eaten my pj's if he hadnt won, being that he won every single solitary award out there that was available!

Well Deserved:

Diablo Cody- Juno was amazing, and it had to walk away with something, and im glad it was Cody, whose stripper turned screenwriter story was a rags to riches tale if there ever was one.

What were your shocks and what wins do you think were well deserved?

p.s. im thinking of doing a top 15 favorite tv shows list on the blog. whaddya think?

Jericho may have been the first successful fan attempt at bringing back a show, but dont forget the Firefly and Farscape fan campaigns resulted in a movie and miniseries.

I would like to see a top 15 list!

I don't think Marion Cotillard's win was that much of a surprise. If you read EWs insiders' picks, you would notice that several of the Academy voters thought the work in La Vie En Rose was strong enough to win. They convinced me to change my prediction to her at the last minute.

I was thinking that in the supporting actress category, Ruby, Cate, and Amy would split votes and give the Oscar to Saiorse, not Tilda. Wow, what a pure shocker!

Fans had some influence on the fate of Quantam Leap at one time. Does anyone know of an online campeign to save Friday Night Lights?
