Hey, EW! Your website, while wonderful, sorta ruins...

... the magazine for me. Seriously.

I'm a huge TV/movie/pop culture addict, and I want to know everything right-now-as-it's-happening. But the beauty of your magazine, when I first started reading it 10+ years ago, was that it was special, new, fresh.

Now, I skip a large portion of the magazine because I've already read the content on your website. What gives? I'm all for you posting articles to the web after the subscribers get to read it in print, but before? How is that fair?

I've done my best to stick only to the parts of ew.com that appear only on the web - TV Watch, Pop Watch blog, Doc Jensen's insightful-yet-infuriating Lost precaps and recaps... but tell me how I'm supposed to remain surprised by the magazine's content when it's advertised in the left pane? You are tempting me with features I should  read on Friday in the magazine, but want to read now thanks to the "Today's Most Popular" link. If I see everyone jumping off the bridge (or over the shark, as it may be), I want to do it, too.

So please, EW, put a crowbar in there and keep the magazine and the website related but separate. Let the people who pay you (i.e., your readers, not the advertisers) see the good stuff first. Everyone else is more than welcome to our leftovers.

p.s.: Please stop asking me to renew my subscription. I'm paid through 2010. I don't care how rare/unbelievable the deal is, I'm not giving you more money until... 2010.

I've been definitely thinking the same thing. Every week I desperately try not to read the articles before I get my magazine in the mail. It's tough. I'd say I always read the movie reviews because sometimes I don't even get my EW til Tuesday. That's a long wait. The main articles is another story. I actually check the end of the post to see if there a "published in issue #..." because then I know not to read the article.

EW is probably thinking that all their readers want to get the news first. Yeah on somethings. But I usually save the magazine to read on my hour long train rides into and out of the city.

Also EW, I'm paid til September 2009. I'll renew then, thank you.

I have the same problem with EW. Everytime I get my magazine, I have to skip over a lot of stuff because I have read it on the website. I also have a problem with that because I pay for my subscription and it's like they are giving away everything for free on the website so why bother with paying for the magazines.
