Britney on How I Met Your Mother?

Alright...I've been trying to bite my tongue about this, but Britney being cast on HIMYM is leaving me feeling...betrayed.

How could my beloved HIMYM producers/writers pull such a blatant publicity stunt? I understand what some are claiming, that they're trying to bump up their ratings when the show returns, to save it from the chopping block, but...come ON!  I would hate to see another brilliant, innovative, hilarious show cancelled because it's too smart for the general viewing audience, but I feel that a Britney stunt casting is totally against the feel of the show, and against the integrity I thought the show had!  I feel that since the beginning HIMYM has been silly and cheeky at times, but always on their own terms. Casting Britney is playing into the sticky hands of ridiculous pop culture vultures, and begging them to pay attention.  Sooooo not classy.

Wasn't Britney on Will and Grace or something once?  Even back then, when she hadn't completely lost her mind and words like "crazy" and "bad mother" weren't following her everywhere and her entire life wasn't one huge train wreck, even then her presence on screen was distracting, because she's JUST NOT THAT GOOD AN ACTRESS.  She was so obviously "Britney acting", rather than disappearing behind a character, and I really don't want to see "Britney acting", getting in the way of my wonderful show that I love.  HIMYM doesn't need her! I wish they knew that.

I think it's a big mistake for her to jump into a job w/ out doing something about her mental state first. If she can straighten out her life, it'd be one thing but... Who's going to tune in to watch? Unfortunately tons of people who hang on every word about her.

It's interesting that the ew.com interview suggests that Britney might actually be GOOD in her guest spot! We shall see...Reading the exec producer's recounting of how it all went down made it a bit more acceptable to me, since it seems that they didn't in anyway seek her out as a publicity stunt, which was one of my biggest gripes. Good to hear, and reinstills my faith in the creative team at HIMYM.

I have to agree with you. They basically invented a role for her and it's so obivious. Hopefully she is not a mainstay on the show.

I feel bad for the actors on the show. They're probably all trained and taking acting very seriously. And then here's come Britney "train wreck" Spears. Everyone has to say all these nice things in interviews. I bet they want to just rip her apart.
