Top Cheftestant's Salty Day

So the first episode of Top Chef was last night. I was a little disappointed that so many people came from the same places. There didn't seem to be much diversity. Although you can't tell who are the front runners yet, you can tell who are the most likely to have a throwndown!

Here is a list of the cheftestants and my first impressions:

Andrew  - NYC - Thinks he is hot stuff, however, obviously has something to prove. *Drinking game alert* take a sip everytime he curses and you will be feelin' good by the end of the show! Will start many a fight I am sure.

Antonia - LA - Don't remember much about her.

Dale - Chicago - quite obviously thinks he is the best chef there. Was glad he was not in the top four. He needed to be taken down a peg, and he was which was nice to see.

Erik - San Fran (the first of many) - was hoping that he wasn't voted off for the souffle. He seems like a nice guy, we shall see.

Jennifer - San Fran - the more experienced of the first top chef couple. Have not decided if that is an advantage or not, hasn't been so far. Previews show she may be in for a few fights.

Zoi - San Fran - the less experienced chef of the couple. She stumbled in the beginning but came back nicely.

Lisa - NYC - don't remember much

Manuel - NYC - Didn't really see his personality yet

Mark - NYC by way of New Zealand - Almost ousted for his separated duck l'orange . Likes to use something called marmite which is apparently an aquired taste for some. Think he will improve when he stops trying to be fancy

Nikki - NYC - apparently makes kick **** pasta, which made up for the fact that her lasangna was pretty basic.

Nimma - Atlanta - was the first to go. Apparently did not want to have any fun as a cheftestant and really has a problem with salt usage. Was not surprised at her being sent home.  Sorry Nimma, it wasn't fun while it lasted!

Richard - Atlanta - made a cool peach pizza thing that looked like it would never work but apparently did. Seems promising. Apparently Andrew thinks he is the one to beat (not sure where he got that idea from). Was nice to Andrew giving him the recipe for mayo and then the actual mayo, but only after he made him sweat it out for awhile, which was fun.

Ryan - San Fran - almost ousted cause he didn't really know what chicken piccata was. Apparently that was a big deal (I don't know what it is either but I guess if I was a chef I should). Hmmm, don't think he will go to far.

Spike - Williamsburg, NY - apparently Spike is not his real name, which is something Greek that I can't remember. Cooked using greek influence to show who he was, I thought that was nice.

Stephanie -Chicago - those tricky editors made me think she was in for it with all her nervousness. Turns out she is the first winner. Hopefully this will help her get over her jitters.

Valerie - Chicago - ummm, don't remember her either.

So what does everyone else think? Which pizza would you have chosen to try? I'd go with the peach one. Do you think the right person won? Was the right one was sent packing?

Salty food is bad, maybe even inedible which one of the judges said, but considering the way the judges tore apart the picatta and the souffle, I was surprised that Nimma got sent home. A souffle that was more nachoes and unrecognizable picatta seems the worse infration.

I feel like Nimma went home in part because what she made seemed so easy to accomplish compared to a souffle and whatever that mess on Ryan's plate was.

Personal faves are definitely Andrew because he swears constantly and I find his vendetta against Richard hilarious, Richard because he used a blowtorch and is a jerk, Jennifer because I actually want to eat her food, and Stephanie who I think not only rightfully won but is absolutely adorable. I probably would have eaten Spike's Greek pizza though, as I am a huge fan of anything involving kalamata olives and sausage.

I agree the Andrew vs. Richard showdown is gonna be pretty great. Let's hope they both stay aroud for awhile just to spice things up! I also like Spike...although I think it may be just cause of his name (ahh buffy memories). I kind of want a women to win this year though. I guess we will see, they look like they have some strong women contenders.

I was just floored over the inability for All of them to make a deep dish pizza! The girl from Chicago? Have you never eaten a deep dish pizza? It seemed like me to be an extremely simple first challange & I was revolted by what came out of that kitchen!

OMG! How stupid do you have to be to mess up SHRIMP SCAMPI?????????

She deserved to go home!

So this weeks was a little boring, surprisingly.
The mushrooms-what can I say? They looked foul! I would be ASAMED to serve them to someone while calling myself a chef. TASTE YOUR FOOD PEOPLE!!!
Why are so many people from Chicago? Ny? Atlanta? Aren't there chefs anywhere else?

The bellini girl who went home-tough break. Really thought she'd be safe next to the mushrooms. Kinda got thrown under the bus but that's the game.

Hoping next wekk will be more exciting. This is the 1st season I haven't chosen a clear winner in 2st episode. Usually I think there's a clear winner, & the one who'll prob win. Can't say that so far b/c no one stands out as a great chef.

This season is such a disappointment! Where's the talent, the passion? I see a bunch of ego-inflated "chefs" who think they're better than they are.

I know. I was excited for the season to start and now I find that nothing has been that interesting. Let's hope that tonights fights will start the ball rolling and I will gain some interest in these people.

This week wasn't any better. I'm sooo disappointed! TC used to be one of my fav shows I really looked forward to. Not this season!
The contestants didn't even undestand the elements concept(except the winning fir team). The food didn't reflect the elements, they just picked dishes to do. The beef looked terrible!
The judges have a hard time deciding who should go home, b/c clearly, more than one deserve to go. They should scrap this season & start fresh.
