Think of a Throwdown as a public debate in which two opponents have three chances to make their arguments. And, yes, there will be a winner: users can watch the debate unfold and vote for the person they think makes the strongest case.
Throwdowns can be on any subject. No debate is too great ("The Wire offers social commentary on the level of Dickens' best novels") or small ("Oscar the Grouch is the stinkiest TV character of all time. Even worse than Pepe LePew"). You can challenge a specific user to a Throwdown, or issue -- and accept -- "open" challenges.
Oh, and we're keeping score. Check the leaderboard to see who among you is the Throwdown King (or Queen).
Let's get ready to rumble....!
(1) To begin, click on the THROWDOWNS tab at the top of the page.
(2) On the new page, click on the NEW THROWDOWN tab, directly beneath the navigation toolbar.
(3) You will land on a page labeled 'Start New Throwdown'
(4) Entering your 'Throwdown Statement' and 'Opening Argument' is a matter of simply entering the text into the appropriate fields. If you want to issue an "open challenge" select ANYONE CAN ACCEPT; if you have a particular opponent in mind, select CHALLENGE A SPECIFIC FAN, and follow the directions.
(5) Click on the START THE THROWDOWN button -- and let the games begin!

How long does a Throwdown last? When do you declare a winner?
WJK1 02/19/08
Good questions, dice! Throwdowns end 24 hours after the sixth and final argument is made. After those 24 hours have elapsed the person with the most votes is declared the winner. Also, I should've pointed out that you need at least five decisions to make it on to the leaderboard. Hope to see you there!

What happens if no one accepts your throwdown challenge? Is it like being stood up on a date?

Why was my Throwdown deleted? I won it!
The Counteragent 03/22/08
Same thing has happened to lots of us--seriously guys, what is going on?
double_agent 03/22/08
Yes: my record suffers because my only sort-of win (a tie: helps my poor record nonetheless) was deleted for no apparent reason. I'm a bit befuddled by the whole thing...what's going on?

Any answers on where the throwdowns went? I've lost all of mine.

One of my throwdowns is stalled--my opponent hasn't posted in three days. That's supposed to be a forfeited turn, game over, let the voting conclude!

on my O.C. throwdown, my opponent hasn't replied in ten days!!! should her turn have forfeited by now???
loglady 04/20/08
same with one of my throwdowns....it appears as though too many people were complaining about the 24 hour rule (which was a little short for my liking) but now this unlimited time...silly
between that and lil archie and his "throwdowns" i'm bored now....

Yeah, in one of my throwdowns, I've been waiting for my opponent for a MONTH!! A MONTH!
