I was raised on Dolly Parton, and I'm really looking forward to tonight's American Idol even though I fear that it could get weird. I giggle a little picturing David Cook wailing a guitar and belting out "Why'd you come in here lookin like that, when you could stop traffic in a gunney sack..." Poor song choices could equal a disastrous show on the scale of Beatles Week Part 2. Plus, a lot of the best Dolly songs tell a story, and you just can't cut them down to 1:30. For example, I desperately want Jason Castro to do "Coat of Many Colors," but you would lose the whole meaning of the song. I'm very interested to see what everyone comes up with tonight.
Here is what I would like to see each contestant choose:
- Jason Castro: Since “Coat of Many Colors” probably just won’t work as a shortened song, my choice for him is “Travelin’ Thru”
- Brooke: “Jolene”, if it’s not too R-rated for her tastes. Backup Choice: “To Daddy”
- David C: “Two Doors Down”
- Kristy Lee Cook: “Why’d You Come in Here Lookin’ Like That”
- Michael: “White Limozeen”
- Carly: “Seeker”
- David A: “Here You Come Again”
- Syesha: “It's All Wrong, But It's All Right ”
- Ramiele: Does it really matter? I’m guessing she is going to continue her trend of choosing songs that are way too big for her and go with “I Will Always Love You.”
