20 scariest movies??

So I've always sorta wondered if these were ordered from #1-20 or vice versa, or even unordered. I actually do agree with most of these choices, save quite literally 3. American Werewolf? Henry: Portrait of? The Ring? These movies are included at the sake of such classics as Suspiria? How about some of the truly terrifying Japanese horror films of the 90's?

Ringu is far and away scarier than the Ring could ever hope to be. What about Oldboy or Kairo or even Gin Gwai? Ju-On, the original Grudge was terrifying!

Session 9, High Tension, Cabin Fever, Devil's Rejects? Jacob's Ladder, Pet Sematary, heck even Blair Witch was scary the first time around...come to think of it that last scene in the corner with the handprints....Amityville Horror...geez I could literally go on and on with the ones that were missed...Hellraiser????

I appreciate seeing all of the some of the old classics in there (Psycho, Rosemary's Baby, Night of the Living Dead) as well as those that really launched the horror genre (Texas Chainsaw, Nightmare, The Omen) but where was the original Friday the 13th? And really where are the new classics? There's only 2 movies on that list after 2000, and I don't agree that the ring should be there...and there's only 4 movies total from after 1990? That to me is just kinda wrong, especially when I can't agree with 2 of em (Seven and 28 Days are great choices though).

hmm. a toughie.
Firstly, I think EW's focus was predominantly American movies, otherwise Ringu or Ju-on would definately be there. But I think The Ring makes a good consolation representative. (the only good Jap-remake that's been made). Give the film props, it was a phenomenon when it came out., and most people wouldn't even have known about the originals if it weren't for that one.

Secondly, most of the movies on this list ARE scarier than the ones you mentioned- Though, I too, am surprised not see Blair Witch. Or Village of the Damned

Also, I think the idea was for the list to have variety. They can't fill it completely with only monster movies, or only slasher flicks. So, if they were to pick a "boogie man" film. I'm glad they went with Halloween over Jason. (Though, by those rules, I think you go with either Silence of the Lambs, or Se7en, but not both.)

I would have dropped American Warewolf, The Thing (for The Fly) and craptastic Evil Dead (I know fanboys will hate me for that, but the movie is just funny, not scary) As far as ghost stories go, I missed The Sixth Sense. It's one of only 4 horror movies to ever be nominated for Best Picture.

Avatar-50

It's a good list but without the scariest movie ever made its not complete. That movie would be Alien, I saw all those movies growing up and Alien was the only one that gave me nightmares.
