NBC 2008-2009

Ok, I crapped a brick when I saw that NBC announced its fall/midseason/next summer lineup already (http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/04/nbcs-new-lineup.html), and naturally feel the need to comment on each returning or new show one by one. Soo.....

RETURNING SHOWS

Chuck: Well, good. I really like this show, and think it has enormous potential. It still needs to break though in my opinion, because it does lean towards the obvious, but I think it can and will get better as time goes on. I mean, with Josh Schwartz on board, I'm sold.

The Biggest Loser-Families: Whatever. It makes money and is cheap-ish to produce, so I get it. Won't watch, but I get it.

Law & Order-SVU: Well, if it ain't broke....

Deal or no Deal: I'd rather watch Gold Case, personally.

My Name is Earl: Used to be good. Not so much anymore. Would like it to get better. Please?

30 Rock: Best comedy on TV, so yes, I'm happy.

The Office: 2nd Best comedy on TV, so yes, I'm happy.

ER: Fine because it's finally ending, and I think they'll do it with grace.

Life: I didn't know this show had enough viewers to warrant renewal, but apparently, someone watches this boring crap.

Heroes: Ew. I don't like this show, in spite of having former Alias cast members, which was the only reason I ever watched it.

Lipstick Jungle: Nothing will fill the Sex and the City void as well as DVDs and reruns, but keep trying guys. Learn the hard way.

NEW SHOWS (Fall)

My Own Worst Enemy: What a terrible title. They really need to rename that. Plus it sounds kind of lame and far-fetched in a bad way.

Kath & Kim: Sounds good apart from having women who are 8 years apart in actual age play mother and daughter. I assume this will fill the void Scrubs will leave in Comedy Night Done Right.

Knight Rider: I know the TV movie was well-rated, but they should consider that there weren't exactly alternatives at the time. Probably will do better than Bionic Woman, but not by much.

SNL Thursday Night Live: Good idea, but drop the "SNL" from the title. We're not idiots; we know what network we're watching and who these people are. Talking down to the audience just makes NBC look more pompous than it deserves to be.

NEW SHOWS (Winter)

The Philanthropist: Vague description=me not caring.

Dunder & Miffinities: Only acceptable if it involves one Karen Phillipelli. Otherwise, count me out. If they move anyone from The Office into here, I'll go berserk.

Merlin: Sounds like they're trying too hard. Doubtful that anyone will watch.

Kings: Will either go awesomely right or horribly wrong, and I'm hoping for the former because I do like the concept.

NEW SHOWS (Summer 09)

America's Toughest Jobs: Because we really needed a cheap knockoff of Dirty Jobs.

Shark Taggers: Also better suited to Discovery/Shark Week only.

The Listener: "Hey guys, wouldn't it be great if we combined Medium with Greg Grunberg's character on Heroes?". Um, no.

Chopping Block: Completely uninspired. We have enough cooking shows (which I do love), so where's the NEXT big thing?

This chopping block show sounds like Last Restraunt Standing which is currently on the BBC tuesdays at 9. Looks like they are stealing more reality shows from the Brits, surprise, surprise. Nothing sounds very exciting to me except for the (in need of editing) premiere of heroes (why 3 hours people). And of course I am very happy that Chuck has survived.
