My therapist said that if I blog about something other than Lost, I may have an easier time with the homestretch of the hiatus. Yeah right, I thought, but here I am. This weekend I blew 35 bucks on DVDs. I bought Ocean's 11 and 12, both good, but not nearly as awesome, feel-good, quotable, or memorable as Ocean's Thirteen, my favorite movie, believe it or not. I also bought There Will Be Blood. I haven't gotten the stomach to watch that yet, even though it is the BEST movie ever made. Seriously, in 25 years, we will look back and think "that is the greatest movie ever made." The same happened to Citizen Kane: it was a flop at the box office and got one lonesome Oscar for screenplay. Fifty years later, it was reborn as the "greatest movie ever made." Impossible? Hah! I also borrowed 3:10 to Yuma from a friend (the new one), and loved it. The scene where Bale gets Crowe to the train may very well be the best shootout yet. Go ahead and laugh. I have made a list of 50+ movies that I would buy if someone handed me $1000 and said "go ahead, spend it." When would I watch them? I have all the time in the world!! (or the weekend, at least) Notables are: The Assassination of Jesse James, Good Night and Good Luck, Sunshine, Heat, Raging Bull, The Good German, Syriana, Amadeus, Zodiac, and American Gangster. All great movies. Like I said, it's a compulsion.
