So E. is in Massachusetts and J. is with her family in New Jersey, but Idol still brings us together. We are blogging live through AIM.
It's Andrew Lloyd Webber week and this could be one hot Broadway mess on the stage.
E.: how can they complain when people perform and its too Broadway and then have a night like this
E:i feel like they are setting up for disaster
E.: I like the band being on stage again
J: I think Ryan should stick to hosting reality competition shows instead of conducting.
J: What is Carly wearing?? it looks like a table clot.
Randy says this might be the toughest night of the season. Paula is unclear as usual. Simon says they have to sound memorable and contemporary.
Syesha Mercado is singing "One Rock and Roll Too Many."
J: She's in the dreaded No. 1 spot. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to go.
E: Here is a little personality we haven't seen from her, she is finally not doing a ballad.
J: that dress and her style scream Jennifer Hudson, some one is trying to emulate.
E: but the vocals aren't as good as they have been the last few weeks. Feels forced, trying to hard, eh...over it already.
J: I'm surprised she didn't do the Dreamgirls dance.
Randy feels that this is her element and she could be a huge Broadway star. Paula says she brought the house down. Simon calls her sexy! and says he liked it.
J: I'm a bit surprised the judges loved her quite so much. It was nice to see personality, but I wasn't blown away.
E: If she did a Broadway performance like that any other night they would tear her apart.
Jason Castro singing "Memory" after the break.
E: I think I am nervous about this song choice, but I think he can pull it off.
Andrew Lloyd Webber never thought he would see a man in dreadlocks sing "Memory." Jason says "uhhhhh."
J. and E. agree that that may have been the best song choice segment of the season.
J: I don't know if he has the vocal power for this song.
E: uh oh, i don't love it. The lower part wasn't good, the rest is though.
J: Darn those hand swaying minions.
Randy says it was a little bit of a train wreck. Paula says wise choice, because it allows him to put his influence into it and further identifies his unique being ... and then she keeps rambling. Simon says it was probably the longest two minutes of his life and it's not his style of music.
J: Simon was kind of right.
E: It wasn't his best but certainly still good enough to keep him around.
Brooke White is either singing from the heart or singing "From the Heart" after the break. Ryan wasn't clear.
E: I hope she does well or I fear she is getting the boot tomorrow.
J: I hope not before Syesha.
Andrew Lloyd Webber says he thought Brooke didn't have a clue about what she is singing.
Brooke starts singing a song from Evita, and then stops!
J: Oh no. Oh no.
E: Oh no. Oh no.
E: Seriously, that just happened. once was fine, but she can't have just done that.
J: I feel for her, but that may have been the kiss of death. This show is Live! You can't just stop and start.
E: She doesn't really have the big voice for this but she sounds good, not great, just good.
Randy says wasn't great. Paula is almost speechless than says you must never start and stop. Simon says this is why he loves live TV.
E: Syesha was better than her, this could be bad for her.
E: Why is no one mentioning when she did this before. In "Every Breath You Take."
J: Oh yeah, well once should have been the only freebie. She may pay for this mess up.
David Archuleta is up after the break.
E: Bet he sings something that can tug on the heart strings. He is all about broadway, I feel like this is where he will make a living after Idol. I don't think he can sell records by the millions.
J: Broadway or Disney Channel musical movies.
J: I kind of wish he would surprise by doing something up beat.
David is allowed to be mobbed by teenage girls on stage.
E: Vomit.
Webber's advice: "Open your eyes."
Singing "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera.
E: He sounds great, and he is actually making it sound like a song that could be released now but i gaurantee the judges don't point out that it sounds the same as EVERY OTHER performance this whole season.
J: Agreed!
Ryan says he can sing anything and little David is the one to beat, Paula says perfect and was able to turn it into a pop ballad, Simon says pleasant, but one of his weakest performances.
J: Thank goodness Simon brought some reality to his critique. It was a good performance, but it wasn't memorable, and he WILL make it though again.
E: Wow didn't see that coming from Simon, makes me happy though.
Carly Smithson up after the break.
E: Seriously Carly was reenacting the scene from Sound of Music where they make clothes from the curtains when she got dressed today. She really embraced the Broadway theme.
J: I hope she can break up her gloom funk.
E: I really want her to do well though, especially because Brook and Jason both kinda stunk .
Carly Smithson singing "All I Ask of You," until Andrew Lloyd Webber tells her to sing "Jesus Christ, Superstar."
E: Yay Andrew Lloyd Webber! you are hero.
E: I'm so glad she listened.
J: This is amazing! And look at Ricky Minor dance, that boys got moves.
E: She is absolutely nailing it, I am soooooo excited right now.
J: There is nothing desperate about this performance.
J: I can't help wondering though if this was just another ploy to get Jesus in the Idol songs.
Randy said great, Paula said she liked the performance, Simon said better performance of the night.
Carly runs over to the stage manager, who hands her a t-shirt that says "Simon Loves Me (this week)."
E: I love her.
J: I'm glad to see she's having fun.
E: But even still Simon didn't praise her the way they normally do with David A. Even when they are nice to her, it isn't nearly as nice as they are to other people.
The final performance of the night: David Cook singing "Music of the Night."
J: Oh, Webber says this is his sexiest song ever written, I'm ready to be wooed.
E: Andrew Lloyd Webber is my favorite mentor ever!!!!!
J: At times I LOVE this, but then sometimes if feels like bad off-Broadway.
E: Not the best vocals ever, but he is really trying. This is such a weird night.
Randy says amazing vocal performance, a "molten hot, lava bomb," Paula says fantastic. Simon says this is not the side of David he likes, but he made the most of the song.
E: I sometimes wonder what Randy is watching. I agree with Simon completely.
Ryan attempts to sing ish.
The Judges sign off wearing "Phantom" masks, so appropriate.
Final thoughts:
E: Carly was my favorite of the night. I fear Brooke may be going home.
J: I think Syesha actually may of had one of the strongest performances of the night. So while, i would normally want her to go, I don't think it's gonna happen.
J: It may be Brooke's time to go and I think we just need to accept that.
E.'s mom agrees.
J: Bottom three should be Brooke, Jason and David A. (The boy just needs to be there once)! It's getting hard though because there are so few left.

Bottom three: Jason, Brooke and Archuleta...which will make all the girls scream and faint with fear. It's a coin toss on Jason and Brooke. There were TERRIBLE. Period.

JASON CASTRO GAVE THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT AND WHAT A VOICE. I HOPE DAVID A. LANDS IN THE BOTTOM THREE BUT I;M SCARED BROOKE WILL GO HOME. RANDY SAID JASONS PERFORMANCE WAS A TRAIN WRECK , WELL I'D RIDE THAT TRAIN.

I'm really beginning to think the judge's are trying to sway the votes towards a David/David final. The Davids can sing showtunes with their armpits and still get love from the judges. DC's performance tonight was especially bad. Carly, who I thought gave the best performance of the night, just can't buy the type of compliments that the Davids get regardless of how well they perform. Seeing every week how the judges don't judge on talent, I'm beginning to remember why I didn't follow the previous 6 seasons.
And Brooke. I really like her, but unless votefortheworst.com comes through, she's gonna be gone.
