But as everyone knows, the REAL story is Paula's gaffe, also known as the Most Magnificent Oops.
The contestants were supposed to be graded on their performances after the second song, but for some unknown reason Ryan called them all onstage after the first song. Randy gave his usual, meaningless blathering of "da bombs" "just a'ight for me" "blazin'", etc. Then loopy Paula. Starting on Jason, she said something about his first song I hardly listened to and then started in on his second song... which he hadn't sung yet. She was quickly corrected, stared for a moment in disbelief with a shocked "I thought you sang twice!" and then mumbled some excuse about her comments being for David Cook.
This, of course, will ignite all those conspiracy theories that have hovered around, theories I am now inclined to believe. But there are several possible reason for this goof, which we will discuss now.
#1: Paula was high/drunk/out of it/leaped into by time-traveler Sam Beckett-- While this option (except for the last part) seems on the face more plausible, I'm not inclined to believe it. She seemed surprisingly lucid tonight, and, if you noticed, her blurted comments were more straightforward than normal.
#2: She sat in during rehearsals and was referencing that-- Also plausible, but I don't believe this either. She sat in Michael Johns' rehearsal at least once, but unlike Simon I think she truly does try to judge them on their live performance and not their dress rehearsal.
#3: The producers, sick of her ramblings, gave her and ONLY her cue cards-- Slightly more plausible, but not enough. If they were truly sick of her manner of delivery, they'd fire her.
#4: It's a conspiracy!-- This is the one, as much as it pains me, that I'm most likely to believe. Which, of course, brings up all sorts of questions. How long has this been going on? Do the votes even count? Do they already have their winner, or at least their top ten, picked in advanced? Do our calls go to a phone that is never answered, never counted?
It would explain alot, wouldn't it? Why Randy and Paula and even Simon have been so off-base with their remarks. Why we have shockers where Sanjayas and KLs stay too long and Melindas and Chrises and Michael Johns are sent home too soon. The producers have chosen their favorites and how long they will stay from Hollywood Week and that's that.
I dare someone to forfeit out of principle. Or at least, as my father put it, during the next critique say, "Is that your opinion or the producers'?"
I am creating this profile solely to review American Idol performances... I WOULD use it to also review Chuck and Journeyman episodes, but that seems to be rather impossible, now doesn't it?
