These guys baffle me sometimes. I just don't understand. I don't understand how some movies on a list can be praised for being a solid translation from page to screen, and yet the most literal, EXACT translations like Sin City or 300 can be ignored.
Sure, I'll take American Splendor and Ghost World. I'll even let in the cartoons like Akira and Ghost in the Shell. But From Hell, though a nice adaptation, hardley deserves to be on a best comic book movies list. Yes, Guillermo Del Toro has a fantastic visual style. Yes, Pan's Labyrinth was phenomenal. Yes, we are all looking forward to Hellboy 2. But the first installment left me pretty dry. And I'll take the first Blade movie (where he isn't CG'ed into the fights) over part 2 any day.
So anyway, I'm going to round things up to an even 20. Here are 20 of the best comic book movies people might have actually seen:
1. Superman

2. Spiderman 2

3, 4, 5. Batman, Batman Begins, Batman Returns

6. The Crow

7, 8. X-Men, X2

9. V for Vendetta

10. Sin City

11. Dick Tracy

12. 300

13. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

14. Blade

15. Road to Perdition

16. American Splendor

17. Ghost in the Shell

18. A History of Violence

19. Men in Black

20. The Mask
