Season 1 Episode 8 | American Gladiators S:1 E:8

And so it ends...

Throughout this episode, NBC decided that it would be really cool to throw in some filler about the highlights of the season. Which lasted all of 7 weeks. Why did they need to do this? Because while there was just as much competition as a one hour program, NBC had to fill two hours of space. I'm not gonna bother telling you what the best moments were, other than to say that I agree that Venus's comeback in the Eliminator was one of the best I've seen.<br>

Anyway, let's get to the competitions.

Round One: Hang Tough - Men and Women.

Monica and Shanay go up against Siren, and no one gets any points.

Evan and Alex take on Wolf. Alex almost makes it to the platform, but just as he's about to swing over there, Wolf grabs him and down he goes. Evan fares much better as he capitalizes on a misstep by Wolf that leads to Wolf falling, so Evan gets 10 points.

Round Two: Assault - Men and Women.

Women go against Hellga in all her scariness. Shanay gets three points before she's dinged, while Monica hits the bulls-eye with the slingshot (the first to ever do it) and picks up 10.

It's men vs. the undefeated Justice. Alex gets off the slingshot before getting hit and gets 1 point. Evan hits the bulls-eye with the turret and gets another 10.

Round Three: Joust - Men and Women

Women vs. Crush. Monica goes tumbling with some pushing by Crush, while Shanay manages to stay on the platform to get 5 points.

Men vs. Titan. Both men go down after getting hit about three times.

Round Four: Pyramid - Men and Women

None of the women score points against their respective gladiators.

Alex manages to get five points crossing the score line while Evan is denied.

Round Five: Wall - Men and Women

Monica scales the wall first picking up 10, while Shanay stays on the wall the entire time to get another 5. Going into the Eliminator, it's Monica 20, Shanay 13.

Evan reminds us he's a rock climbing instructor and reaches the top under 25 seconds to get 10. Alex hangs onto the wall for another 5, so going into the Eliminator is Evan 30, Alex 11.

Eliminator

So Evan wins the Eliminator in 1:19, breaking his previous record-breaking record. Really, was anyone surprised by this? If any of the guys was going to get it, it would be Evan. Everyone said that the Eliminator should be renamed the "Evanator" for his dominance. I agree.

Women's race is much closer, but Monica pulls away around the handbike area, gets up the Eliminator on her first try, and crosses the finish with 1:53. A nice woman to win. It was never really clear who would win; it was totally open. But I'm glad that it was Monica.

And there we are! Now we can wait for next season as Monica and Evan join the ranks of American Gladiators. Only two things weigh on my mind: 1) What will the incredibly dorky Gladiator names will be given to them, and 2) Evan will be the shortest Gladiator by at least 4 inches. Sheesh.

Nice recap.
This being the finale, I expected to see all the galdiators compete at least once. Barely half of them made an appearance! I was dissapointed not to see Fury.
I too am wondering what the logic is in letting the contestants be gladiators.
Maybe when we see them next season, Hulk Hogan will have turned them into lean, mean fighting machines!

Hulk did say to Evan after he won that they would be going to the gym together, but I wrote it off to random Hulk Hoganisms.

I don't know how they can turn into lean, mean fighting machines that quickly...they're already filming in March and April.

Too bad you didn't include a picture of the winner. I only watched the first few episodes of the show, and I have no idea who is Evan. Oh, well.
