J. and E. Live. Instantaneous and awesome reactions.

E. I am oh so worried about Mariah Carey night, there are so many notes that can go so wrong.

J. Wow, Paula looks like a real person tonight.

E. That's because Syesha stole her dress. Syesha looks like a hooker Barbie in that gold thing.

Ryan asks what can the Idols do since Mariah is one of those artists that they always warn the Idols not to tackle?

Randy says he's just looking for some personality.

David Archuleta is in the dreaded No. 1 spot.  Singing "When You Believe."

J: He's like a five-year-old in a candy store when he meets her.

E: Oh wait, this sounds like every other song he's sang this season.

J: He takes Mariah's advice to sing falsetto and I think it falls flat.

And the Judges continue to love on David Archuleta, Randy says it's great, Paula says its great, Simon says half of it was great although he may have shattered some glass.

E. It was not amazing, he hit at least one very bad note, I am sick of the Judges loving all over this kid.

J.Simon brings up a good point though, the boys might actually do better tonight because they won't be compared to Mariah herself. I don't think any of the ladies have the pure vocal chops to stand up to her songs.

E. Carly might if she just doesn't sing angry again. You can't sing Mariah if you're angry.

J. Wow, Carly looks beautiful.

She's gonna be singing "Without You."

 E. Oh she sounds amazing.

J. Open your eyes. Carly you have beautiful eyes. Open them and you will be a star.

J. Again, the song choice. "I can't live anymore." It is once again a desperate song. Although she did sound like a singer.

Randy likes it, but wants more confidence, Paula rambles about stuff, Simon says she didn't live up to his expectations.

J: All the judges cheer her on to be more confident. When is this girl gonna learn to trust in her talent?

Syesha Mercado is up next.

E: Oh what song from one of my favorite artists is she gonna botch this time?

She is going to be singing "Vanishing."

E. Oh really? Good choice.

E. Although Mariah's songbook is so diverse and they are all singing ballads.

J. I know, I want to hear something up tempo that I would actually purchase a CD for.

E. Eh... Syesha's performance didn't make me look up from my paper, so that's all I have to say about it.

Randy says she did a good job "all things considered," Paula says unbelievably something, Simon says technically it was very good, but not sure if the song choice will be risky since not many people know it.

Brooke White is all sparkly. She is singing "Hero."

E. This is going to be good acoustically, I think I'm going to like this.

E. She's got that emotional connection from "Let it Be" back.

J. I love this. It's raw, but awesome.

J: E. chants "Yeah, Brooke is back. Brooke is back. Brooke is back."

Randy says he likes the singer-songwriter vibe, Paula blabs on about being authentic, Simon says it was "like ordering a hamburger and only getting the bun" - the vital voice was missing.

J. Brooke looks completely shell-shocked, she's probably a vegetarian.

E. You cannot force someone to sing Mariah Carey and then say they don't have the voice for Mariah Carey. I disagree with the judges again tonight.

J. Kristy Lee sings "Forever."

E. Is it bad that I want her to fall on her face?

J. No.

E. I hate that she sounds good right now, it's making me cranky.

J. Dang, I think Kristy Lee just secured her spot on "sofa, safety."

J. WTF?

E. I hate that her and Syesha didn't completely suck tonight.

Randy says it was pitchy, but good, Paula is blown away and then continues to babble, Simon said he didn't have chills and she managed for what she could, but it wasn't great.

Up next are our two favorite boys, David Cook and Jason Castro.

David Cook singing "Always, be my baby."

E. Oh please don't screw this up, it's my favorite Mariah song.

E. David Cook is the most brilliant person on this season. I deem it so and therefore it is.

J. This is pretty amazing, and he looks good tonight to. Take that "little" David. This is how to be a true audience.

E. *Clapping* I am buying that song first thing tomorrow. Oh my god I am in love with you.

Randy says David is ready more than any other person to be a recording artist and stands up for the first time all season. Paula says he's the whole package. Simon says "it's like coming out of karaoke hell and it's a big breath of fresh air. "

E. Brilliant. This guy has sang Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Our Lady Peace, and the Beatles and done it all well.

J. Oh he's crying. He's crying. He's crying. *high pitched girl squeal."

E. I think I just had a religious experience hearing David Cook sing Mariah Carey.

Jason Castro singing "I Don't Want to Cry."

E. This sounds nothing like the original.

J. I'm glad to see him without an instrument.

E. And I love it. The two people who changed the song, did the best.

E. I'm not jumping up and down like I did for David, but it was still good.

Randy says he didn't get it, Paula says she could listen all night long.

J. Me too.

Simon says he agrees with Paula. Wasn't the best vocal of the night, but it identified with you and it was a cool version. He said the guys completely owned the night.

E: I feel like the bottom three has to be Carly, Syesha and Kristy.

J: I think this may finally be Archie's turn to be in the bottom three. He wasn't awful, but he was in the dreaded No. 1 spot and the other two guys just blew him away.

E. I don't know I just don't see the thirteen-year-old girls out there not voting for him.

J. I think it just might be the surprise, Kristy will prevail again and the only logically choice to be in the bottom three after Syesha and Carly is "little" David. Because David C., Jason, and Brooke just don't deserve to be there.

I guess we'll see what happens tomorrow night, but what do you all think?

I just don't get why people are voting for Kristy. I definitely think it's going to be an all girls bottom 3.

Avatar-50

Can someone please explain to me why people keep voting for Kristy?! I think it's going to be an all girls bottom 3; the boys rocked it tonight.

Avatar-50

Kristy is AWFUL! I wish they would get rid of her. She definitely should have gone home a long time ago, especially before Michael. She can't do anything but turn every song country and it's getting old.

Kristy is awful! She should have gone home a long time ago, especially before Michael. She can't do anything but turn every song country & it's getting old!

Because all the girls took a 180 a few weeks ago. Kinda like when Elaine gave up the boom boom and became George and vice versa

Avatar-50

i cant understand why jason is still there..cause he sure cant sing....and david a. can sing but hes not all that..just has the teeny boppers....im hoping david cook and carlye will be the top 2 but im not holding my breath, simon doesnt seem to like her at all..never has anything good to say to her..and brookes sweet but her voice still doesnt hold a candle to carlye but yet they all fawn over brooke...go figure

Avatar-50

I thought Brooke's rendition was pretty good, but I think she may be the one in trouble. She was the weakest vocally, and it seemed kind of rushed. But she's still my favorite girl. I really, reallllly want to see Syesha or Kristy go. One more week with both of them and I'll blow my brains out, especially when more talented contestants leave before them... *cough* Michael Johns *cough*.

My prediction is all boys in the Top 3. JASON CASTRO ALL THE WAY!!!!!!

Avatar-50

jason should have went home along time ago...he stinks at singing....david cook is excellant he can sing anything...david a. is good also but lacks the pazazz...caryle can sing better than brooke but all the judges can do is fawn over brooke and down carlye..id like to see david c and caryle go to the top but i know thats not gonna happen...but please get jason off of there hes really annoying..even worse than kristy

Hey, I love Brooke, but I gotta tell you, as a singer myself, I thought she was the weakest of the evening.

Whether you love or hate Syesha and Kristie Lee, they at least demonstrated that they have some vocal range. Brooke was off-key, sounded screechy as she tried to climb to the higher notes, and then appeared to rush the song to get it over with.

I really love the singer-songwriter vibe she has, and my personal tastes are more along the indie folk lines, and I thought Jason, the other folkie, managed to do his "thing" with a Mariah Carey song (and I for one am no fan of her music, but boy was she sweet with those kids tonight!). He showed off his falsetto and hit some high notes and made it both original and interesting. Brooke was original and dull, dull, dull. She is starting to seem like a one-trick pony.

I actually thought Syesha did a very good job, and while I'm no KLC fan, she showed she had some guts up there. All the girls looked fantastic, but poor Carly: here she covers her arms, takes on a very difficult song, and Simon trashes her per usual.

Oh, and please, I think I'm going to have to quit my job, abandon my husband and kids, and become a David Cook groupie. He is DIVINE. And watching Simon bring him to tears (in a good way) knowing his very ill brother was out in the front row to witness it could have resulted in the very movie script David's performance provided the soundtrack for. Paula was spot on there, folks. Clearly Simon holds all the power with these kids. When he praises them, they know they've done their jobs.

One more thing, I thought David A. was AWFUL. I love the Prince of Egypt and that song (although I much prefer the Ofrah Haza/Michelle Pfeiffer rendition and not the Whitney/Mariah **** contest version that rolls with the credits. It really was the perfect song for David and he should have just sung it straight. I'm sorry; it was BAD. (Still love the kid, though!)

Avatar-50

I think Syesha's pretty damn good!

Jan122007_915_lg

David Cook was awesome. He rocked it. Everyone else gets a big "meh" from me.

Avatar-50

Kristy, Syesha and Carly in the bottom three. They are so boring!

Avatar-50

It's the Bottom Three for Syesha, Carly and Kristy Lee. They are so BORING.

Avatar-50

All I have to say is...David Cook may have made me his biggest fan tonight. He not only has a great, raw voice, but he is original and his spin on that song was brilliant. I'd buy his CD if that was only that song on it. Dang.

Avatar-50

you know what?
i think david archuleta is amazing!! he is going to win!!
and there is a reason why the judges love him. um hello?! HE IS A GREAT SINGER!!!!!!

Avatar-50

i think david archuleta is a great singer and should win! there is a reason why the judges love him. its cuz he is good!! having a lot of fans isnt why he gets all the hype. its cuz he can SING! and getting lots of fans comes from that!

Avatar-50

Simon didn't say anything about shattered glass to David A. He said he didn't think there would be many LAUGHS tonight (although David A was smiling) about his critiques. Yes, David's song sounded like every other song - wonderful!

Avatar-50

David Cook is definetly the one to beat this season. He is, as Paula said, "The whole package." I don't know where Simon gets off on calling him cocky all the time, he is just good. I fear for him like Chris Daughtery though. He maybe on his way out simply because people know he will make it with or without winning idol.

Avatar-50

In describing David Cook, Simon said it best. "Stood out by a MILE."

He stands out by a MILE.

It doesn't matter if he wins or not. I just want him in the final so he can have the maximum of televised performances. He's exciting to watch, and is pretty much the only one I look forward to watching, now that "MJ" is gone.
