America Gets It Wrong Again

This was a bigger shock to me than Michael Johns' early exit. The fact that Carly Smithson was in the bottom two (rather than three, since there were only six contestants) with Syesha Mercado after they both gave stellar performances last night was unbelievable, but to wind up there over stoner Jason Castro and woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown Brooke White makes me wonder if American Idol is rigged.

Simon called his praise of Carly "the kiss of death" and he was right. She was much better than Syesha and in another hemisphere compared to the double train wrecks of Brooke and Jason. America got it wrong in a big, big way. There were 38 million votes and the tween girls who think Janice Muppet Jason is sooooooo dreamy must have been up speed dialing all night while he was hitting the bong. "Duuuude...duuuuuuude...I just sang a song by a cat." Ugh! Carly was never going to win, but I expected she would make Top 4. I'm still guessing the Davids will be the Top 2.

Before Carly was cut, there was 58 minutes of filler, including the obligatory group sing. Andrew Lloyd Webber played piano while the Top 6 sang All I Ask of You. It was pleasant, probably the best group song of the season. Another 10 minutes was wasted with clips of Clay Gayken performing in Spamalot and Tamayra Gray in Rent. The only bright spot was Leona Lewis singing her hit song, Bleeding Love. She won the X-Factor show in the UK and was coached by Simon. This girl is the real deal. Even the over-the-top pyrotechnics couldn't diminish her big voice and the pop perfection of Bleeding Love. There was also a taped message from Dubya and Mrs. Dubya thanking everyone who donated money during Idol Gives Back. Hey, it's Fox, the state run television network, so no surprise seeing the lame duck squawking and looking like a moron as usual.

Next week the Top 5 will be mentored by Neil Diamond. I still wish Amanda Overmyer was around to sing Love On the Rocks.

Way to blog Collin- I think you hit it right on the head with your title "America Gets it Wrong Again". Because ironically, what is wrong with America is people like you.

Referring to Jason Castro as a 'stoner' due to his dreadlocks and poking fun at Clay because he ****, is exactally what IS WRONG with this country. Most Americans, like yourself, are quicker to judge and label someone that is different from what they know, as opposed to treat them like a fellow human, a person.

I'm just glad that there is a growing number of people in this world that are more tolerant of others and less likely to pass judgement on things that people do that are different from the societal norm. Unfortunately there aren't enough tolerant people in this wonderful country of America, which by the way, was founded on personal freedoms.

I hope for your sake Collin, that one day you will realize that people are people, and people at the end of the day are all the same.

I'm curious. For those who appear upset at the results, who did you vote for?

Avatar-50

I spent the entire two hours voting for Carly. You suck, America.

I voted for Carly until the battery in my phone died. You suck, America.

aWESome, climb down off that soapbox and get a sense of humor. I'm gay and I've been known to smoke a bowl every now and then, so as I've said before, I call them like I see them. It's reality television, try not to get so personally involved.

Oh, by the way, I also voted for Carly. I've been voting for her for the last two or three weeks because she seemed to need it most. Ah, well, there's $5 I'll never get back.

I voted for Carly until all the bones in my fingers broke.

No, I really did vote for her though.

HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT SWEET JASON CASTRO LIKE THAT AND YOU KNOW WHAT MAKES HIM SO DREAMY-ITS HIS WONDERFUL PERSONALITY THAT IS SO SWEET. HE WAS A TOP STUDENT IN SCHOOL AND VERY POPULAR AND HE CAN WEAR HIS HAIR HOWEVER HE WISHES. I WONDER WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE. JASON IS AN AWESOME PERSON AS WELL AS A VERY TALENTED ARTIST. JASON'S PERFORMANCE WAS A GOOD ,HEARTFELT AND MELTING PERFORMANCE AND THAT IS WHY HE GOT THE VOTES HE DID AND BY THE WAY I AM 43 AND NOT A TEEN. AMERICAN GOT IT RIGHT AND YOU NEED TO QUIT JUDGING PEOPLE BY THEIR OUTER BUT RATHER THEIR INNER. JASON JUST HAPPENS TO BE SOMEONE SPECIAL WHO HAS BOTH.

Firstly,I have never been so disappointed in my life when Michael John's was eliminated. Then, to have Brooke and Jason win over Syesha and Carly is just the biggest injustice I have ever seen. What the ^(*&)*)* is America thinking. I have no confidence that they will get it in the end. I am truly dissappointed and makes me wonder if I should watch this show ever again. I can't be more discouraged in the voting process and the voice of America. I am sure the ones voted off in the last 3 weeks will make such an impact in the musical industry it will be truly amazing. Bottom line, I'm truly so upset with what has happend and if things get worse, I will not be a fan of the show.

Brooke was the one to go. America you voted again for the wrong person as you all did 4 years ago for president. You morons

I'm sure Jason is a very nice guy. However, he wants to be a singer but has never seen or heard of Andrew Lloyd Webber? I mean, come on! He had no idea what the song was about or how to sell it. Webber tried to talk him out of it and even on the show tonight he said Jason had ignored his advice and sang Memory anyway. It was simply not a good performance, but American Idol is no longer about singing talent, it's just a popularity contest and the Muppet obviously has a lot of fans. Pass the dutchie, Jason.

Collin, Your blissful ignorance and failure to get your judgemental facts correct prove you really aren't worth responding to, but here I go anyway. Sadly it willgive you some sense of accomplishment which I dread because you will never be a journalist with your erroneous reporting.
I have known Jason for a very long time and I can assure you he has never done any kind of drugs. To call him a stoner should get you sued for defamation. I would guess he could care less what you say, but you should be more careful when writing publically not to accuse someone of something when you have no clue. What you get with Jason is a very shy kid who has jumped into the spotlight and is learning to overcome the one obstacle he has and that is his awkwardness. He is a great kid and not only tweens vote for him. I believe there are many more than that. How do you logically justify calling America wrong because they voted different than you did? How arrogant of you to assume we should all vote the way want us to.
Perhaps it's time you got off your depression medicine and learn to write without slandering others. Does it make you feel better to trash someone else? Your style of judgemental journalism is the very reason this country is going down the tubes in a hurry.

Just couldn't help yourself ... had to put your poor taste above your judgement & attack President Bush .... did your get your digs in on the Queen Hillary or the Barrack Osama Obama when they appeared .... no you probably attacked John McCain for being an American Patriot .... Oh ... excuse me ... this is supposed to be about American Idol, not Politics!

I showed my humanity & voted for Brooke who is the only Idol standing with a vague chance of post idol success.

Have a great day

Avatar-50

It's all about American Idol & Brooke is the only true artist on that platform & the only one with a Post-Idol chance of a successful career in show business.

You just can't let yourself take a pass on President Bush ... why don't you tell us how you really feel!

Jan122007_915_lg

ajay, that's sweet of you to come to the defense of your friend (although allow me express total disbelief in your assertion) but while you were responding, you never once mentioned the performance. Which was terrible last night. He might be awkward and shy, but Lloyd Webber told him not to sing the song and Jason sang it anyway and completely butchered it. That shows an amazing amount of arrogance on Jason's part. Or maybe his own blissful ignorance. If he's going to ignore the people who are trying to help him do his best, he'll never have a music career. And that's a simple fact. God, I need a joint.

Everyone likes different things, but, I think America got it exactly right. Those who loved Brooke and Jason protected them on an off night performance. Many who liked Carly, still didn't connect enough to vote. I think Carly had the best vocal instrument in the competition, but, I didn't like her as a person. She was too full of herself and too wired which often made her voice, although powerful and pretty, too shrieky and sharp. Brooke and Jason have soul and tender qualities which define stars above other performers who by the millions perform in regional theaters and cruise ships and bars and .... I'm not sorry to see Carly go. It was her time. Buh-bye.

Avatar-50

OMG Carly should not of gone! America got it so wrong I also knew that she could never win not while little girls are voting for the likes of little David and Jason plus the fact the she is Irish!!! but there was no way that this week she deserved to go especially not when Brook and Jason are still in it! Dont get me wrong I like Brook but this was the second time she messed up and had to begin again and dont get me started on Jason I may just get ranted at for saying my opinion.............but he was bad

all I can say now is America get it right and crown the correct David (thats Cook by the way)

Jun132003_714_lg

Collin, what the Hell is up tonight? Everybody is taking themselves so damned seriously. It's SATIRE, for fu@k's sake! Here's throwin a lil Luv your way, *kiss, kiss*.

Jan122007_915_lg

Thank you, Bitten. There are some real Jason-loonies out there.

I don't think Carly being Irish had anything to do with it. She made some bad song choices and she was lacking the...for want of a better word...warmth of some of the other contestants -- namely David A. and Brooke. The thing about Brooke is that she genuinely seems like a nice girl. On the verge of a meltdown every week, yes, but she's the most "real" person on the show. David A. exudes kindness and humbleness every week, despite the fact that he's a Terminator. lol

Oh, and are people STILL supporting Bush? Really? Seriously? Anyone still on that train has more problems to worry about than who's smokin', tokin' and chokin' on Idol.
