AI Top 6 Roundup: Who's Passing the Doobie Out There?

After watching the AI Top 6 show, I thought it was BLATANTLY clear who should be in the bottom two. Syesha gave a spirited performance that really showcased how much talent America has been ignoring all season. Carly shined after finally being forced to sing a great song her voice was made for. David Cook went for subtlety and showed off that he does, in fact have a voice. David Archuleta didn't choke (damn you!), but isn't in any danger of leaving the show. Jason gave the same drugged-up unmemorable ditty that he gives every week. And Brooke ... well, it was the OMG!!!! heard 'round the world (or America, at least). So HOW, in the name of Kelly Clarkson, did the two most powerful performers from Tuesday night end up in the bottom?
I think the only thing conclusive about this is this: Parents, you need to take the cell phone away from your 16-year old girl. Stop her from dialing fifty million times for her teenage crush. Tell her that pretty boys her age who are on AI probably have stage parents, haven't had a chance to grow up, and will probably end up with maturity issues (or sexually confused issues - see Clay Aiken if you need a reference). Tell her that dreadlocks result from not washing your hair - EVER - and the only place where you might pay to see a mindless guy playing a guitar whose every word is "Dude!" is at your local college bar, probably where he'll be for years to come.
This is a TALENT competition, not a "teen heartthrob" competition. If we were voted based on the magical duo of talent and marketability, Brooke )as much as I like her) and Jason should've been in the bottom two. Jason should've gone home (hey, I thought he should've gone home after he completely ripped off Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo'ole's version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", but that's just me), but instead we're stuck with him another week. This is heresy similar to what we saw in season 4 with Jennifer, Fantasia, and Latoya making up the bottom three. Wake up people! If Dreadlocks passes you the doobie, step away!!! A clear head will vote for the talent!

Just because Brook started over, everyone jumped on the bandwagon that her performance was bad. Her voice has a very unique, touching sound and I thought she sang her song very well. I was at a concert of Mac Davis' and he started over a couple of times and even asked the audience for some of the words to one of his famous songs because he forgot them. The concert was awesome and it gave a personable, more human aspect- we didn't boo him.

Mac Davis is still alive?

There are two issues here. One, at this point in the competition, it's about the body of work, not just the last performance. Carly and Syesha have been very inconsistent. One performance isn't going to suddenly give them a fan base.
Two, it's not just about the pipes! It's about the total package of performance. Carly and Syesha can sing very well, but they don't know how to use the instruments they were given.
Brooke may not be the vocally loudest or widest range, but she's had a lot of good performances prior to the last few weeks. Her voice has a unique quality to it, and she puts a lot of emotion into her performances. She won't win, but I think she's the third most talented. She proves you don't have to bellow every song to have good and interesting performances.
As for Jason, well, I don't get him, but a lot of people seem to connect to his performances. I can't explain him. :)

Just to straighten something out, I am a HUGE fan of Brooke's. I think she's amazing, and I'd definitely buy any album she releases. I tagged her in the bottom two for two reasons: she doesn't have the power that Syeshia, Carly, and the Davids have and she had her oops moment. I think it was the best decision for her to start over, but it was still a noticeable mistake.
My issue here is that Syeshia and Carly, despite what the votes show, have both sung consistently, giving B+ performances. They both deserved to be safe.

I am so sad to see Carly go, I thought that she was the best. I have been posting on an AI blog called idolexpose dot com for the past two seasons, and my most passionate postings are about how I felt about Carly and her chances to be the winner this year. Now, with her gone, I am not so interested in the season. Maybe they can bring her back as a guest - can they do that, or will Simon complain? Maybe they could just start next season now.
