The Stalker In the Singer's Case

Last night's episode was a mixed bag.  I loved 90% of it, and could've gone without the other 10.

First the 90%: the case of the week involved the very broken bones of Tommy Sour, personal trainer, aspiring pop star, and jerk.  As B & B explored the various areas of his life, they found many motivated suspects.  I admit that I was surprised at the killer's identity...and a bit disturbed.  If singing loudly is enough to get you killed, I am in grave danger.

Speaking of singing, the episode was full of great examples of it with former American Idol contestants Ace Young and Brandon Rogers lending their lovely tones.  Better yet was seeing Zac and Brennen, the two most buttoned up of the Squints, let loose and reveal their hidden vocal talents.  And how cute was it that Brennen dreamed of being Cyndi Lauper as a young teen?  Her version of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" really was good enough to rival Lauper's, no matter what Sweets said.

Now for the unpleasant 10%.  I can think of individual moments but they can all be filed under the stalker plotline.  Tommy Sour's stalker, Pam Noonan (aka "Fat Pam") set her obsessive eyes on Booth after she learned of Tommy's death.  Pam made for a very suspicious suspect, but I was seriously miffed at her wedging herself into Booth's life.  Pam, seething with jealousy over Booth's attention to Brennen, decided to shoot and kill her saying, "This is for us." as she pulled out a gun.  Booth, ever the hero, stepped in front of a bullet for his beloved partner.  Of course, Booth won't die,* but the site of Brennen cradling him in her arms and begging him to "hang on" left me quite unsettled.

I love this show, but that 10% made me think, "they wouldn't..." in reference to the writers, rather than "run away Booth!" in reference to Pam.  The whole thing felt strangely manipulative.   Am I the only one who feels that the whole plotline was just groan-worthy?

*After a month long Angel marathon, I was all the more devastated when Booth/Angel/David Boreanaz didn't just pop back up in vamp mode ready for a fight.  I watch too much TV.
