Gotta Love the Gute

Oh DWTS, my not so secret guilty pleasure. I didn’t follow last season nearly at all, and even though I missed the first week’s episode too, I was thrilled to stretch out, grab the remote and catch up.
A little bit of play-by-play:

8:10 PM ET

You got to root for someone who doesn’t have much of a chance to go deep, but is loving every minute of his struggle. Guttenburg may not have had a great performance, but he accepted it with class in both the judging at the post dance interview. Attitude like that is, I think, one of the reasons DWTS remains enjoyable even when they don’t have the top flight cast. With most reality shows, the majority of the contestants are bent on total victory. Here, there are always a few contestants that are not there for the scores, but are just looking to have some fun.

Did Penn Jillette really break that bar? Did he really try to disappear during the judging? Did he really trip on the stairs? Did he really get a 17? Oh Kym Johnson, you’ll get a contender someday soon.

Wow! Was that... Priscilla Presley... crawling on the floor? I don’t know what else to say.

Holy Crap! Shannon Elizabeth Rocks!!! I had no idea she could do that. She could be a contender. She looked really good for the second week. Three 8s! That was the best performance of the night...

Until Now. I’m not sure what it is about Edyta Sliwinska, but she can do a lot with what she has to work with. I think Jason Taylor her first real contender contestant, she’s got to be excited, I mean, she’s going to be on Sportscenter tonight. Three 9s!

I grew up in Salt Lake City, and I say that so its easy to understand that my bias towards Julianne Hough ain’t nothing but a hometown thing. We Utah folk gotta stick together, especially in a year like this, cause I won’t be able to root for her for very long. She and Adam Carolla seem to have that ‘good while it lasts’ kind of attitude, and that’s probably a wise choice on both their parts.

Not sure about that green dress though...

Uh, yes, yes there are. Mario is a solid performer. Good footwork and he complements what Karina is good at. He just has to be sure not to hit on A.C. Slater’s lady. I mean, you don’t mess with A.C. Slater. No, Really.

Anyhoo... So in the past it felt like there were three groups of contestants in the show, the contenders, the dark horses, and the, well, we’ll be there till we’re not there anymore. This year, I don’t really see it like that. I think there’s really only two groups.

Group one consists of:

• Mario
• Jason Taylor
• Kristi Yamaguchi
• Shannon Elizabeth
• Marlee Matlin

And the second group consists of, well, everyone else.
