I wrote a recap of this episode and posted it on my blog at http://otte.malechite.com/lost.html Check it out.

I read Doc Jensen's theories, but I disagree. I think that Ben and Windmore did agree on rules to the game beforehand. Otherwise, why wouldn't they just kill each other? I think they're playing out a big game of Risk, and the island (like Australia in Hurley's game) is the key to everything.

The Island won't let Widmore die, that's why Ben said, "I can't kill you". I think they had an agreement, too, and Widmore broke it by sending the freighter crew in armed for battle. When Alex got killed (I'm still on the verge of tears over that), Ben's reaction, "He changed the rules", kinda referred to the whole thing. Ben's been bluffing the Losties all along, SAYING the Freighties would kill everyone on the Island, blah, blah, knowing that he and W had made a deal that they WOULN'T attack; one of his famous bluffs, like the one that got Alex killed. I want to shake Ben to pieces.
