Running From It's Shadow

Okay, up front I used to not be a frequent One Tree Hill viewer, I would watch it here and there when I needed something to tide me over till one of the shows I actually really wanted to watch came on. But then my sister left for college and told me she had found this show and loved it, and I had heard of it, so I began watching the show full time when I saw the commercials for the season 5 premiere. Well I kind of like the show now and I am fully tuned in by sis on all the back stories and plots, so I feel I can bring something to the table when talking about it.
So first off, in seeing the preview for this episode (Hate Is Safer Than Love), one might think that this episode will bring Lucas and Peyton back together for at least one night, which to a lot of people could be kind of exciting. But I'll tell you right now that you get none of that here in this episode, in fact quite the opposite.
In short all the relevant things that happen in this episode are as follows: Angie is called in for surgery, much to the surprise of Brooke. The surgeon promises he will do his best, and Brooke finds herself curious about what the surgeon's name is. Nathan continues training for his "comeback" and he and Jamie have a nice little exercise trip. Upon returning, Nathan stumbles upon Deb stripping for a webcam and Jamie finds the thank you note to Dan in the trash. Back at the studio Peyton comes in to find that Mia is back and ready to record some new material and get ready for a tour. This only discourages Haley who worries that recording a new CD will pull her away from her family. Meanwhile, Dan is told that he is second on a heart transplant list, only behind a dying reverend. Peyton and Haley talk about their record on the top of Clothes Over Bros and Haley spills about her concerns. Peyton does her best to cheer Haley up, and in the end they throw a water balloon at Dan. Haley finds Jamie walking down the street by himself and he says that he found the card. Haley does her best to just tell Jamie that Dan is a bad man and that she is just trying to protect Jamie Mouth is given a break and sent to the Ravens game to cover it. The Ravens play a good game and their plan of having Q set up three pointers seems to be working. At the half, the Ravens are up, but when Lucas gets a phone call from Lindsey saying that she is seeing someone else, he goes off the deep end. The game resumes and Lucas brings ferocious anger and lack of patience for the second half. The opposing coach calls for some dirty plays on Q and when he gets away with it, Lucas pops. He freaks out on the referee and then goes after a kid on the opposing team. Lucas gets ejected from the game and storms away into the locker room where he tells Nathan about Lindsey and that she should've come back to him. Outside the locker room, Haley and Jamie see Dan, and Haley lets Jamie give Dan his thank you card. Back at the hospital, Brooke is told by the surgeon that the surgery went well and that Angie is in recovery. Mouth returns to the news studio, but when asked if he got the footage of Lucas freaking out, he says he did not. In the studio, Haley and Mia have a little chat that makes Haley feel better about herself. Lucas goes off to a bar and gets totally wasted only to be found by Peyton. Peyton carries a passed out Lucas to his house and gets him in bed. She kisses his forehead and starts to leave when Lucas wakes up and tells Peyton that he hates her and that she ruined his life. Brooke learns that the surgeon's name is Ethan and Dan is seen standing in the room where the dying reverend is sleeping. Deb meets her mystery internet partner only to realize that it is Skilz and instead of walking away, they go back to the apartment and have sex.
So yeah, in the end the only thing I walk away from this episode is that Lucas is becoming a complete douche. And the preview for next week doesn't hold much promise to change that either
