Don't get me wrong, I once loved SNL, back in the late 80s when Kevin Nealon, Victoria Jackson and Jon Lovitz were on. Then something happened...it got boring. Along came MadTV and the world was saved! MadTV knows when to cut skits short, so they don't become long, tired and drawn out. SNL will take a pretty good joke and run it to the ground in a 4 minute skit, when it should have ended at 30 seconds. MadTV's song parodies, hilarious. Laugh so hard cry. SNL's songs, I cry because I'm watching them. "D--- in a box" was the most unfunny bit I've ever seen. I'd rather watch "Cabin Boy" 900,001 times, than sit through "D--- in a box" or a full episode of "SNL".

MadTV's version of R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet" had me in hysterics.

1. MAD TV is SNL's illegitimate child.
2. Anything Tina Fey touches is gold. And she wouldn't touch MAD TV with a ten foot stick.
3. A recent study suggests that watching an episode of MAD TV is equivalent to drinking six beers, in that over 10,000 brain cells are destroyed.
4. The only thing more annoying than watching MAD TV is being constantly reminded that I'm watching it. "You are now watching MAD TV. MAD!"
5. MAD TV spawned such garbage as Frank Caliendo's Frank TV. If I die and go to hell, you can bet I'll be locked in a cellar watching alternating episodes of MAD TV and Frank TV.
6. I know tens of people who love, love, LOVE MAD TV. They also enjoy COPS marathons and have cassette tapes of When Animals Attack in a display case next to the mounted heads of deer.
7. MAD isn't an acronym for anything. Because the producers don't know what an acronym is. They believe it is a mythical creature that relies on acorns for sustenance.
8. The above statement is stupid, and would therefore make a fantastic MAD TV skit.

Gretchen is quite the intense Throwdown debater...

Marc, don't hate me, I totally agree that SNL has seen far better days, but you lost me completely when you hated on "D--- in a Box." And I've never laughed at a MAD TV skit once. Ever.

rebuttle!

Even with all the sucking SNL has been doing lately, I'd still take it over MAD TV.
That show is just chock full of cheap and disgusting jokes.

You're both wrong. In Living Color was far superior to both.

(Just kidding.)

gretchen's post made me laugh out loud. she deserves a win just for that.

admittedly, snl has been slipping lately. however, if present day snl is just a poor man's yesteryear snl, then mad tv is a smelly crackhead dumpster man's snl. like gretchen said, mad tv will always be second fiddle. even at its funniest, mad tv's skits can barely touch snl's worst. and, when snl is really en pointe, it's something magical to behold. i challenge anyone to watch the blue oyster cult cowbell skit with will ferrell and christopher walken and not laugh. i CHALLENGE you. give snl some time, it'll bounce back.
