Otherwise, there is no justice/romance in the world.
Jerry & Elaine never got together on Seinfeld--they were too good of friends to have a relationship. JD & Elliot would make a terrible couple, and Scrubs is the kind of show where they aren't going to throw two characters together for the sake of romance. Relationships on Scrubs end up being a lot more complicated.
The fact that they're such good friends is precisely why they'd make a great couple in the long run. They have that relationship, lots of fun, and on top of it, they've proven to have good sexual chemistry as well. They're older and more mature than they used to be, they're ready now!
JD and Elliot are no Ross & Rachel. They were barely together during the show--only for brief moments. I think they are doomed to suffer the fate of other couples that never ended up together. Besides, as JD says in their "traditional sitcom" episode where they shot it with 4 cameras for once: "Unfortunately, around here things don't always end as neat and tidy as they do in sitcoms."
Can we leave Friends and Seinfeld out of this? Those characters have nothing to do with J.D. and Elliot, they're all very different people! Also, the comment from "My Life in Four Cameras" was only meant to apply to the problems it addressed in that episode, none of which had to do with J.D. and Elliot's relationship. You give no evidence of why J.D. and Elliot would be a terrible couple beyond trying to align them with other fictional would-be couples; I have plenty of reasons they should be together. There's always been mutual attraction and they certainly connect well physically, but that's not what's most important. The thing is, every other time they've been together, they were actually pretty great until immaturity got in the way. Since the beginning of this season, both of them have been on a journey of personal growth; Elliot kicking Keith to the curb, knowing it was too safe, J.D. becoming a parent and dealing with new responsibility. They're finally ready for each other, finally ready to fulfill what has been built up since the pilot and hinted at every step of the way.
I see your point, but I think the immaturity issue is bigger than you realize. In my opinion, Elliot dumped Keith because she was still unsure about commitment. Hooking up with the committment-phobe JD is not going to help either. Heaven forbid Elliot says "That's so funny" instead of laughs--that kind of issue would end the relationship. JD is struggling to figure out how to be a dad--I don't think relationships fit into his plan either.
Besides, Elliot and JD both had prime opportunity to hook up in the season finale of last year. She could have used that as the excuse to dump Keith and JD could have used that as reason to dump Kim and work on being a family with Elliot. It didn't happen. If it didn't happen then, I think they missed their chance.
I compare Scrubs to other sitcoms to make my point that it's NOT like your typical sitcom where the characters hook up in the end. Scrubs is different-- it doesn't have to do that to be good.
And I think that "Life in 4 Cameras" quote is pretty fitting for this situation. You have to think a little deeper. :)
What was the best cop show on TV from 1998 to 2008?

hmm... That's a good point Nialle, but I've been re-watching this season of Scrubs- cause that's what a writer's strike will do to you- and I think the show is starting to telegraph these two characters getting together. They've each had moments where they say things like "I know you and you wouldn't do this you didn't..."
Scrubs isn't exactly a real 'throw you a curve ball' kind of a show, so I'm saying that J.D. and Elliot are not done just yet.
Just a matter of time.

As the Dr. Jan Itor once said, "It's not like you guys are Ross and Rachel."
He's correct, J.D. and Elliot will never been like Dr. Ross and Rachel the Nurse. The end.

honestly the couple on this show that has the most chemistry is JD and turk...it might be criminal if they weren't together in the end!

Touche, loglady!
Nialle 03/05/08
Yeah, we should be arguing-- who is the better couple: Elliot & JD or Turk & JD, but I don't think that's even close. :)
Chocolate & Vanilla Bear would win every time.

Okay, I know I'm out of arguments, but c'mon-you know they didn't get together after last season's finale because the future of the show was uncertain! And there is no thinking deeper with Scrubs; it's a sitcom, not Lost! I agree that Scrubs is different and doesn't need to throw characters together to be good, but that doesn't mean they won't do it anyway. If you really want me to think deep about "My Life in Four Cameras", then I'm going to say that Scrubs is self-aware enough to know that what people tuning into sitcoms want that happy ending, and they'll give the people what they want. (People meaning me, at least, lol).

So if we're going to continue making arguments in the comments section, then I'm getting the last word :)
I didn't say that I DON'T want Elliot & JD to get together, I'm just saying that I won't be surprised or disappointed if they don't. I don't think every Scrubs fan needs to see them together in order to appreciate the show for what it was/is.
For me, the Scrubs legacy is not Elliot & JD, but the invention of the KnifeWrench!

Oh, KnifeWrench. You win.
