King of the Hill is, at it's worst, as good as recent episodes of the Simpsons and the best episodes of Family Guy. At it's best, the show is not only on par with the best episodes of the Simpsons, but in many ways surpasses even those episodes. It could be done as a live action show, but just isn't. It doesn't have to rely on goofy, over the top settings, characters, or scenerios to be funny.

No way. One reason why Family Guy is better than King of the Hill: Stewie can single-handedly obliterate every member of the Hill family. In his sleep.

I am sure he can, but let's be honest - gay Stewie is ten times funnier than evil Stewie. Of course these days Family Guy is like a Dane Cook bit: very little original material and a whole lot of 80s references. Meanwhile King of the Hill has knocked the ball out of the park in it's last three original episodes.

First off, saying King of the Hill is better than The Simpsons was an incredibly bold thing to say. If you're going to compare a cartoon to another, don't compare it to a cartoon that is arguably the most popular show (cartoon or otherwise) and unquestionably the longest running series (19 years and not slowing down) in television history. I think you lose on that point alone.

But to say it's better than Family Guy, while definitely not as bold, is still a pretty crazy assertion. Let me say this, when and if King of the Hill gets cancelled, it will be cancelled forever. But when Family Guy got cancelled, FOX later brought it back because it was still so popular. How's that for good?

Not at all. DVD sales means it's popular not necessarily good.

Look, you won't find anyone who likes the Simpsons more than me. But even the most die hard of Simpsons fans will agree that the golden years for that show were seasons 4 - 10. After that the majority of episodes you could take or leave.

When it comes to Family Guy, I think you are mistaking referencing Thundercats for being clever. Cut aways that don't advance the plot in anyway does not equal good writing.

King of the Hill on the other hand always has a begining, middle and end. It uses the peripheral characters in creative ways (John Redcorn is Joseph's father, Buck Strickland's illegal lunch truck, Ted Wasahnasong using Hank to diversify the all Asian country club) not as one note jokes (Herbert's a pedophile, Bruce has the gay lisp, etc.).

Bad choice of words. I meant to say that The Simpsons is arguably the best show on television, and its longevity is testament to that claim.

And really, whether you choose Family Guy or King of the Hill boils down to a matter of taste. Personally, I see King of the Hill as trying too hard to be more of a realistic portrayal of conventional family life. Which is not bad at all, and the show does have its moments. But when I wanna watch a cartoon, I want slapstick, nonsensical craziness that makes me laugh and be entertained. Family Guy fits that billing for me far better than King of the Hill has ever done.

American Dad beats all (yeah, I'm shocked that i am saying that, the state of primetime animation is sad right now).

King of the Hill is WAY better than Family Guy any day. If your throwdown was just that, I'd vote for you. However, you had to throw The SImpsons in there. I'll be the only one I'm sure to argue that EVERY season is good, not just Seasons 4-10.

I respect KOTH, but I don't think it's quite fair to say it's *better* than Family Guy or The Simpsons. All three are great shows in my opinion, but each brings something different to the table.

KOTH is essentially a traditional sitcom in animated form. Simpsons tells a full story, plot-wise, with a healthy dose of zaniness and whimsy. And, yes, about 10 minutes or so of your typical Family Guy episode involves non sequiturs that do not advance the plot in the least. But where else am I going to get to see a graphic, bloody, two-minute fistfight with a giant chicken?

One of the big reasons for animation is that it gives the creators the ability to do things you just can't do with live action. I've yet to see an ep of KOTH that wouldn't be almost equally effective with live actors, while The Simpsons and Family Guy would never be able to exist in any other form. As such, one *could* argue that KOTH is, in fact, *inferior* to the others -- as far as being a cartoon is concerned.

The moment I hear the dad's voice on King of the Hill, I shudder and switch the channel. I can't even stand to watch the animation with the sound off. Simpsons will live on forever. That's a given. Family Guy is so crazy and unreal, that's what makes it great. KOTH. Not so much. Just pure background noise.

I can argue that King of the Hill is pretty underrated and provides more subtle laughs than the hyperactive Family Guy these days (I prefer Guy's pre-cancellation episods), but nothing can touch the Simpsons greatest installments or popularity. You won't ever see anyone get hyped up on a KotH movie or icons, but I can appreciate its more methodical and nuanced approach to the genre.

Family Guy is an insult to comedy. A boldfaced insult.

Are you RETARDED??????????????????????

Ironicallly, I do like King of the Hill, but can't put tat anywhere NEAR the league of Family guy!!! Simpsons are good too, but fg is the BEST!! No contest
