How many times did the Road Runner light the earth aflame from his speed alone? Like every episode. The dude can run over ravines, stop in mid air, make fun of you, beep, beep again, and flee before gravity catches up with him.
I don't even know what Road Runner is. I know that he's sort of a bird, but he's pretty much his own species, isn't he?
I did see the episode when Willie catches, but only after having been shrunk to about three inches tall. The only reason Road Runner let himself get caught is because, well, there was no threat from a three inch tall wolf.

your entire premise is flawed. i seem to remember an episode where speady and the road runner, which is desert dwelling bird, raced. they tied. so one thing is for sure we know road runner is not faster. even if he has a car horn that replicates his trade mark beep beep. plus road runner was glory hound. always out for himself. speedy was always helping other mice, like slow poke rodrigez. i think the speed coupled with community service makes speedy the only choice here.

I saw that episode too, and technically, they never revealed who won the race, opting instead to show Willie and Sylvester exploding in attempt to catch them, unsuccessfully. In fact, remembering that episode is the inspiration of this little throwdown of ours.
That being said, while I giggled at the idea that 'Road Runner was a glory hound,' I don't know how intent could play into a debate on overall speediness. Besides, its not like there was anyone around the Road Runner's expansive desert. Maybe the Road Runner would have been happy to help, but the only other people he ever saw were the driver's of those big old trucks that seemed to be going nowhere....
To me, Speedy was fast, but Road Runner was crazy fast. He had two speeds, faster than everyone, and light speed. It may be noble that Speedy used his skills for good, but that doesn't qualify him as the superior athlete. That honor is all to the legendary Road Runner.

first of all i can not believe this is how i spend my time now. what am i ten years old again?? that being said. road runner was fast but not faster than speedy gonzales. simpley put we only refer to road runner with the generic bird name given to him by sicience. the Road runner. now we do not call speedy gonzales mouse. no we call him speedy. why? because he is faster than anything else. speedy gonzales is the name leaving road runners in the dust is his game.

There is nothing to compare Speedy's speed to. All we know is that Sylvester and Daffy couldn't catch him, and given their respective speach impediments, I am lead to believe they were not capable of trying very hard. Road Runner on the other hand has been clocked with a radar gun, out run a rocket powered car, out run a speeding train, and leaves a cloud of dust behind him when he starts running.

Actually to answer your question about who won the race between RoadRunner and Speedy. The actuall winners of the race was Sylvester and Coyote. As for the devices that Coyote used the always ended up in a diaster, so Roadrunner never really out ran or truely escaped them with his speed.
