Obviously.
LOL! I hope you're right! I'm no trekkie (sp?), but this declaration is a blatant slap in the face of the one series that commands the most loyal following in the history of television.
Star Trek has made its mark on TV. It has nothing to prove, but Star Wars does. There's alot to live up to, so it is inevitable that they will dissapoint. This show is going to be set before A New Hope, and therein lies the rub. Everyone hated the prequels, so why are they still setting the stories there?
Admittedly, my statement is such mainly because I think Star Trek blows and am hardcore Star Wars, but I do have semi-legit reasoning. George Lucas has a **** ton of money, so you know the production value is going to be top-notch. With any luck, he won't direct, therefore there's a chance for good acting performances. And maybe this is just the nerd who likes to watch all six movies in a row speaking, but I'm curious to see what happened between Sith and A New Hope---and seriously crossing my fingers that it involves Han Solo. Sidenote: at the risk of discrediting myself, I didn't hate all of the prequels. I think we can all agree at the very least that they had some raw lightsaber battles.
I actually love the prequels, but I think I'm in the minority. But still, ANY new show, no matter how much money you throw at it, no matter how big the built-in audience, has to prove itself, especially in this day and age. There's alot of stiff competition out there (Lost, Heroes, Battlestar G,) and that's not even to mention the non sci-fi shows. Star Wars can't just be good, it has to be great. That remains to be seen
I wouldn't consider Heroes to even be on the level of Phantom Menace, and Battlestar will be gone by the time Star Wars is on. As long as timeslots don't coincide, I'm sure Lost fans won't shy away either. Honestly, aside from whatever Sci-Fi serves up, there won't be anything like Star Wars on TV once it's on. Unless it's absolutely god-awful, serious fans won't shy away, and even less serious fans may be intrigued by the idea of characters not named Luke or Anakin and whatever happened between Vader becoming Vader and Obi Wan Kenobi being Leia's only hope. Oh, and Star Trek is terrible, therefore not hard to be better than :)
Damn! I don't doubt that there is still plenty of Star Wars stories to tell. That's the beauty of it. But look at all the other franchise revivals on TV today. One word: Ugh. What worries me most is how little Lucas will actually be involved with the show. It's in the hands of money-grubbers trying to cash in on an easily bankable franchise. The magic, the wonder, the heart of what makes the saga great might be lost under the pressures of network TV. I'm betting it will, but here's hoping I eat my words
What was the best cop show on TV from 1998 to 2008?

Uh, no. The Star Trek series has a lot of street credit, and with the disastrous Star Wars movies (episodes I-III) I have no faith that Star Wars will ever redeem its former glory. But Star Trek? The show had some epic moments on the big screen and clearly dominates the small screen. Star Wars, as much as I loved the original trilogy, will be lucky if it even lasts a season.

Are you kidding me? Look, I for the most part prefer Wars to Trek, but you can't tell me Lt. Warf isn't cooler than any character before A New Hope. I have always told my wife that when my kid comes and asks me about these three other Star wars films his friends keep talking about I am going to tell him those movies don't exist and his friends are playing a joke on him. I have no faith in anything involving George Lucas or Steven Spielberg. All this TV show is rekindle Lucas' relationship with Disney so he can get some of that sweet theme park cash!

The "Star Wars" track record on the small screen is not exactly encouraging: The Star Wars Holiday Special, anyone? Anyone? Okay, how about The Ewok Adventure? Yeah, I didn't think so.

The Counteragent, you know I love you, but I gotta disagree. Star Trek STARTED as a television series, and became so popular that a slew of movies followed. I'd love nothing more than to rewatch all of Next Generation. Besides, all of the new Star Wars movies are TERRIBLE. I doubt that expanding into a television series would be any better.
