The acoustic versions of Alternative/Punk Rock songs are almost always better than the original.

The acoustic versions always bring out more emotion to the song, which, i believe, is what i believe that genre is all about. Take Fall Out Boy, for example, their album "My Heart Will Always be the B-Side to My Tongue". Although I absolutely love all of the FOB cd's, the acoustic cd is much more profound and heartfelt.

I have to disagree.

I'm sorry, but I really don't know much of anything about Fall Out Boy apart from the fact that Pete Wentz is dating Ashlee Simpson and spends as much time and money on his appearance as she does. And is not averse to kissing dudes. That said, I do not believe acoustic versions of songs are inherently superior to the plugged-in versions. Yes, there are plenty of examples in which this may be true, it it is definitely not *always* so.

You claim emotion is what the "Alternative/Punk Rock" genre "is all about". I didn't know Alternative and Punk had been fused into a single genre. In addition, the only genre that is more about emotion than any other genre is the only one named for one: the blues.

The emotion you feel is artificially generated. Acoustic instruments tend to create a more intimate atmosphere. You can't blast away with the same power and speed without destroying the song; you often have to slow things down. And the acoustic guitar has a certain aura to it -- reminiscent of 60s folk acts. Using them now brings back such images in the subconscious mind, transferring emotion and intimacy onto current bands. It's all subjective, anyway.

And, of course, I have to disagree.

First, Pete Wentz dating life and sexual orientation has nothing to do with this subject. His lyrics are amazing and as Fall Out Boy's members are practically the poster boys for the genre (whether you think they should be or not, they kind of are), it surprises me that you would even pick this fight not knowing much about them

I would also like to clarify that I am talking about the genre Alternative & Punk, and I (accidentally) stated twice that that was my opinion. There is much more to the genre, but that is, to me, the best way to sum it up. The music of the genre is also many times classified as Emo, which itself stands for emotional, so... I think at least one person out there agrees with me (hopefully he or she is going to vote, haha).

As for the always comment, you left out the "almost" that came before it. I think that the acoustic version of Night Drive by the All-American Rejects is terrible. However, I stand by my statement that they are almost always better. Take a look at the Punk Goes Acoustic cd's... they are amazing! As well as Relient K's Apathetic EP. The list goes on and on.

Emo...Yes, I remember that from back when it was called "The Cure". See, if you'd said that to begin with, I'd have stayed away. But you said, "Alternative/Punk Rock", which, to me, is not the same as Emo. I personally consider alternative a subgenre of rock and punk a subgenre of alternative. In my mind, something can be alternative AND punk, yet not Emo. Like Blink-182 or Green Day. This was exacerbated by your use of a slash in the throwdown statement, possibly implying "Alternative OR Punk".

Given my misunderstanding of your claim, I didn't feel it necessary to know jack about Fall Out Boy. Had you been referring to such a broad genre as Alternative (including punk), one example would not be much support for your position. With the narrower limit of Emo only, you could very well be right.

I stand by my position of why it seems more emotionally resonant, though. It's the same regardless of genre. Artists know this and go acoustic for that exact reason. (Green Day -- Time of Your Life)

And I'd guess that if Emo were almost exclusively acoustic, you'd be arguing how awesome it is when they go electric. It's largely the novelty of it that is so appealing.

The hard thing about Emo is that it all depends on who you are talking to. I have, in fact, heard of Blink-182 and Green Day being classified as Emo music.
I did mean it as one category, so sorry about the confusion. I would have put Alternative & Punk, but I thought that that would be even more confusing. However, if the music genre is being described as Emo due to the true meaning of the word, I must agree.
I don't want Alternative & Punk to be exclusively anything. There are times when I want the original, and times when I want the acoustic. All I'm saying is that when I've had a bad day and I need something to emotionally connect to, nearly always the acoustic is going to do a better job than any electric (unless, of course, I'm angry).
As for Fall Out Boy, my shining example would be the song "My Heart is the Worst Kind of Weapon". Or, if you'd like a song that has an electric and acoustic, "Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner".

If you want to do a draw on this one and repost since I wasn't clear on your challenge, I'm fine with that.
