You've got The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Cheers, and Night Court vs. My Name Is Earl, The Office, Scrubs, and 30 Rock. The 1988 version may have taken more more trophies, and had better ratings, but the 2008 version is just as funny, with characters that are just as memorable. Both The Cosby Show and My Name Is Earl provide life lessons, albeit in different ways. Alex P. Keaton and Dwight K. Schrute are both set in their ways, and both worship higher powers (Ronald Reagan, Michael Scott). It's law vs. medicine in Night Court and Scrubs. And the highest quality in the lineup pits Cheers vs. 30 Rock. I'd have a beer with the cast of either.
If Scrubs wasn't going away soon, this 2008 lineup could sustain itself for years to come.
One more thing, to show how comedy has changed in 20 years: 1988 = laugh track. 2008 = no laugh track.

I am going to argue this with you, but rather than saying the new shows aren't as good, I will tell you that from top to bottom the 2008 version of Must See TV (which is now called Comedy Night Done Right) is BETTER than the 1988 version, although you're referring to the 1986-87 lineup.

Let's rank the two lineups in terms of strength.
1986/7: 2008:
1. Cheers 1. 30 Rock
2. Cosby 2. The Office
3. Night Court 3. My Name is Earl
4. Family Ties 4. Scrubs

I don't see anything on 1988's side that I would watch over the 2008 lineup, but I know that quality is subjective, so let's look at it by time slot.

1986/7: 2007/8:
8:00 - The Cosby Show 8:00 - My Name is Earl
8:30 - Family Ties 8:30 - 30 Rock
9:00 - Cheers 9:00 - The Office
9:30 - Night Court 9:30 - Scrubs

Even if I give you Night Court over Scrubs, that's still a 3 - 1 advantage. Defend your precious 80's lineup now!

Guess I was looking for someone to disagree with me. I should have rephrased: the 2008 lineup is as good, if not better, than it was 20 years ago.
