I'm a huge fan of BSG. I love Starbuck, Apollo, Baltar Number Six and the whole crew just as much as the next girl. I especially love the relationship between Adama (senior) and Roslin. I own every season -- inlcuding the the freshly-released 3rd-- on DVD, and have seen every episode at least 3 times all the way through.
And yet...
I still find myself longing for the sometimes devastating, sometimes hilarious adventures of the Scooby gang. I miss Xander (I even miss his late Season 7 eyepatch), Willow, Buffy, Giles, Spike-- even Dawn (and she's almost entirely annoying) to a degree that keeps me up at night wishing someone would bankroll Joss Whedon the money to make his Season 8 comics into a miniseries.
My thing with 'Buffy' is strange. All of the other shows I really love-- 'The West Wing,' 'Freaks and Geeks,' 'Rome,' and 'Six Feet Under'-- I have accepted their demise with gratitude and an 'aw, shucks' shrug. 'Buffy's' absence I haven't gotten past. And as much as I live to see the survivors of the 12 colonies finally reach Earth, I just can't help but think that I'd give it all up for just ONE MORE season of 'Buffy.'

So essentially what you are saying is that "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was the greatest show of all-time. And that is where I have to respectfully disagree with you. The interesting thing about this argument is that I am a Buffy fan, tried and true. However, if you are going to put it up in the pantheon of all-time great shows...it doesn't even register as a pimple on the butt of THE. GREATEST. SHOW. OF. ALL. TIME: THE WIRE.
There isn't a show that has captured the depth, realism, and TRUTH of life in the urban jungle quite like "The Wire". From examining the depravity of City Hall to the underachieving public schools to the corporate hack newsrooms, "The Wire" pulled no punches. It was unapolagetic in its portrayal of the law, the street, and the institution of life known simply as "the game". Let's take a tally:
Writing: Joss Whedon's a great writer but David Simon and crew have him beat hands down.
Cast: Buffy usally dwelled upon eight to ten characters max. Is there a more complex and diverse cast ever on television than "The Wire"? This show often deals with 20+ characters at any given time.
Bottom line: Buffy is a great desert but The Wire is the main co

Actually, I wouldn't go so far as to say that 'Buffy' is the best TV show ever. That honor can go to 'The Wire' (which I've only seen one episode of, but I won't argue against it) just as easily as it could go to 'The West Wing,' 'M.A.S.H.,' or hell, 'I Love Lucy.'
So no, I'm not really saying that 'Buffy' is the greatest TV show of all time. That question is truly open to interpretation. More like it's the most watchable... accessible, maybe... show I've ever watched. I don't know. It has that undefinable quality that gives it a weird mental longevity missing from 90% of TV shows-- it stays with you. 'The Wire' may be that show to you, but it has not yet left an impression on me (I do plan to catch up with the series on DVD soon). And outside of being a critic's wet dream, I don't think it has left much of an impression on pop culture as a whole, either.

The problem Tracey is that you've changed your argument three times now! Look at the HEADER of your throwdown! You're saying that as much as you try to embrace other shows, none will ever live up to Buffy for you. If that isn't a "greatest show of all time" endorsement, I don't know what is.
In your retort you go on to say that now your criteria is "most watchable" or "accessible" TV show. You can't change the rules of a game once you've started to play! You even go so far as to change it a THIRD time by saying we are now arguing about which show had the biggest impression on pop culture. You have to argue your original point and quite honestly you are all over the place.
In terms of "staying with you", Buffy has nothing on The Wire. I am haunted by the despair and tragedy I see in each episode of "The Wire". I measure the intangible quality of "staying with you" with two criteria: 1)Does the show make you think? and 2) Does the show make you want to take action to make a change? The Wire meets both criteria, for me.
Based on the fact that you are continually changing the issues we are "throwing down" about, I think you cannot be declared the winner here.

I think she's saying there hasn't been another show that's has ended and yet still lives the way Buffy does. With the Season 8 comic and the Karaoke Musical show happening all over the country and getting shut down cause they were making money. Its the kinda of show that when I watch other shows I think of how the Scooby Gang would have handle it or what kind of one liner they would have used. Its the kind of show that becomes apart of you. The entire Buffyverse feels like family. My best friend who I finally converted to a Buffy fan by Season 7. When season 8 #1 was released. She picked up two copies after work we both drove 20 minutes to a Waffle House to meet and read it together. I was so excited to find out what they had all be up to. I had missed them sooo much. That's the awesomeness of BtVS.

Looks like I have to disagree with you both-Alias ftw!

Blue, if we were arguing about the show that has ended and still lives on in a way no other show has well, Star Trek would win that hands down!
We aren't arguing about that though!

Buffy trumps shows still running and ones that have end. And you're coming off all hostile. Chill.
