The two biggest, movies this summer are also the two most anticipated sequels of the year.
No doubt I'll be watching both with excitement. But If I had to predict which would be the better movie, The Dark Knight is pretty much garanteed not to suck:
-For starters It has a better title.
-Heath Ledger's Joker looks friggin insane!
-George Lucas is nowhere to be found.
Well my friend, point by point, your mistaken. As much as I will enjoy Dark Knight, it simply doesn't have the chops that Crystal Skull has.
-A better title!? Maybe to some, but Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull lets you know exactly whats coming: Indy + expensive skulls = awesomeness.
-Heath Ledger was a talented actor, no doubt of that, but the makeup they did on him was ridiculous! What are we, 3 year old girls breaking into mommy's makeup?
-And George Lucas? Need I point out that not only did he launch Harrison Ford's career, but that if you even without Crystal Skull he has been prominantly involved with nine popular, sucessful movies (star wars- 6 movies, Indy- 3 movies). And all of this is in addition to his multi-million dollar company's (Industrial Light and Magic, Lucasfilm, Lucas Arts...).
Crystal Skull will attract a larger audience, because the middle agers will remember the first three and want to recapture that fun, while the young kids will see it for the adventure and humor. Dark Knight will be dark, very dark. And although I'm sure there will be a couple of laughs, Crystal Skull will be funny and adventurous, and definately not dark.
To be sure both movies will be fun. No doubt they are different types of films. But they are still both action/adventure.
If I were a betting man, I'd go with the consistency of Chris Nolan. His movie is comming off the heels of one of the best films in the last 5 years, comic book or not. Batman Begins was incredible, and I just can't see how the sequel can dissapoint.
Any time it takes a sequel over a decade to get made, that's cause for concern. I'm just worried. I'm worried that Shia Lebouf will be this generation's Short Round. I'm worried because Speilberg's last two summer movies (War of the Worlds and The Terminal) failed to meet expectations. I'm worried because George Lucas nearly ruined Star Wars, by trying to reinviggorate it. Could he do the same with Dr. Jones? All I'm saying is that you have to consider the chance that it's possible.

I'm approaching this as a question of "Who would you rather do?", and even at 65 I'd rather do Indy than Batman. So there.

Never anything less than professionalism here.

Never underestimate the sheer power of Christopher Nolan. His movies are consistently spectacular, and especially dark. Sure, Crystal Skull may entice and entertain more audiences this year, but I believe the best movie overall will be The Dark Knight.

Appels and Oranges.
Batman = Moody, violent character study.
Indy = Witty, Happy action yarn.
If you go into Batman expecting to laugh alot and have a good time then you're nuts.
If you go into Indy expecting something more then 110 minutes of some of the best Fluff hollywood can offer, you again are nuts.
I'll gladly be seeing both myself.

It could be my age(21) but I would much rather see the Dark Knight than the new Indy movie...although I will admit I have never seen an Indy movie...just doesnt appeal to me...

I can't wait to see both--at the drive-in! Summer and blockbusters are coming, and I can't wait. These two look especially good.

I can't wait for Indy to return!
I am not going to see Dark Knight. I haven't seen a Batman movie since Val Kilmer & Jim Carrey. That franchise has just changed hands too much. Indiana Jones , like a fine wine just keeps getting better. True, the 2nd film wasn't great but the 3rd film was a wonderful return to form.
I thought Shia did well in Transformers so he'll probably do well beside Harrison in this new flick. Spielberg, Lucas & Ford give make me giddy with anticipation! I've never even heard of this Chris Nolan.
