Aquaman would no doubt have been successful. It did wonderful on iTunes and personally I thought it was brilliant. Smallville has proved to be a WB/CW jewel, so there should have been no hesitation with Aquamam as it was thought up by the same duo as Smallville. Perfect casting, perfect story. Smallville isn't going to last forever, and once it ends (if they don't at least make a green arrow spinoff), they will realize their loss as the male viewership goes kerplunk.

Aquaman may have been a success on iTunes, but fleeting success doesn't point to a long-lasting series. Smallville certainly feels like it's lasting forever--every single time I see a promo for that show, either me or someone around me feels compelled to condemn it or question why in the name of Krypton that crap is still on. The CW is most successful with its teen/female-oriented programming, most obviously ANTM. I think it'd be smarter for them to accept that their male viewership as you awesomely put it is going kerplunk and focus on creating more of what they're great at.

Well, as a male viewer, Smallville is my favorite show. And it actually wins the night with male viewership... what other CW show can say that? As Smallville is one of the highest rated shows on the CW, and was on the WB, you can say "crap" all you want but you are outnumbered. You are correct, however-- The CW is most successful with its teen/female-oriented programming. This should be expected, though, as it is a teen channel. But why on earth should that mean throwing away your male viewers? And, the show is not only popular with the male viewers, but the female viewers as well (we can thank Chloe for that).
There is no way that it would be smart for a channel to let any audience go kerplunk. CBS did that with Joan of Arcadia, looking for a younger audience and look what they got with Ghost Whisperer- nada. Well, other than some angry fans.
And if you have watched Aquaman, you would see how many places the show could be taken. Smallville has lasted 8 seasons now. Has the road been shaky? Yes. But has it paid off for the WB/CW? Yes, again.
Aquaman (or Green Arrow) could save the CW from a kerplunk.. and a kerplunk is definitely something to be avoided at all costs.

Forfeited Turn

Not exactly sure how to oppose that argument.

Ahhhh! I was working on a project and then in class all day! How did it forfeit so quickly? I've waited over a week for people to respond to me before their turn was forfeited! Argh! Anyway......

Crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap. And now that I've said that all I wanted to and then some...

There's a reason Aquaman is a running joke on Entourage-Aquaman is boring as hell, just as Smallville spin-offs. I've spoken to dozens of people who hate Smallville with a burning passion, and this throwdown is seriously the first time in my life I've heard anyone defend that show.

Also, it's occurred to me that we're being a bit narrow-minded in assuming that all CW male viewership lies in bad superhero adaptations. Don't any watch Supernatural? How about WWE Smackdown? And while it may not be the biggest hit, Everybody Hates Chris reels in a male audience. Furthermore, ANTM may mainly appeal to women, but men watch it too, albeit mostly gay men. And ok, I know Bravo kind of has the women/gay men market cornered, but CW could do better if it tried.

Aquaman is one of the lamest superheroes, and Smallville is one of the lamest shows. I guess it makes sense

I think Aquaman should have been picked up but then again we would have lost out on Justin Hartley as the Green Arrow and he does a great job as the Green Arrow.

May112007_933c_lg

You are right-- we would have missed Justin Hartley as the Green Arrow. But, at the time, we would not have known him as the Green Arrow. Or, as of right now, he is not the Green Arrow and would, I'm sure, still be up for Aquaman or Green Arrow. I would be happy with either, but as Aquaman already has the pilot episode (which was amazing), I would prefer Aquaman over Green Arrow. But--forgive me for repeating myself--I'd be stoked for either.

I didn't see the aquaman pilot but saw the trailer on youtube. It looked great. I think the best eps last season were with green arrow and chloe rocks. And I agree that the cw needs a spin-off for smallville soon. I would prefer a JL spin-off. And Chloe needs to be involved.

May112007_933c_lg

That would be awesome! Especially if they could get all the JL characters from the actual smallville eps! I would take that over another season of smallville if tom welling and allison mack were in it. especially as lex and lana aren't even going to be in the next season (but don't get me wrong, i still am super glad that the show got renewed and i'm interested in seeing where they take the show w/o those two main characters). dream series, much?
