So You Think You Can Dance: Cirque du Mark
One Tree Hill is pretty much a rip off of Dawson's Creek. Not a bad rip off, but definitely a rip off. There are even two dawson's references in the first two episodes of One tree Hill. Dawson's Creek is a lot more realistic, OTH just blows things way out of proportion. And the debate between Dawson/Joey/Pacey will always be more interesting than any love triangle on OTH.
A rip off? Are you serious? To begin with, if you are going to call One Tree Hill a rip off of Dawson's Creek, you would then have to call Dawson's Creek a rip off of something like My So-Called Life or 90210 or EVEN Saved By the Bell (sure, that's a bit of a stretch, but still).
If I were to describe One Tree Hill (high school seasons) to somebody, I would include two major things that Dawson's Creek lacks majorly: basketball and music.
I am a fan of Dawson's Creek-- I own the series, even, because I like it so well. However, One Tree Hill surpasses Dawson's Creek in almost every aspect. Sure, DC gets cred for being first, but OTH should not be diminished for taking a leaf from the teen soap genre after DC had.
And you are right about the D/J/P comment because OTH does not only do love triangles, but-- to quote Brooke-- they do triangles plus one.
Also, OTH does a better job at capturing truly tramatic situations. My shining example of this would be the shooting episode. It was more than just an after-school special, it showed the heart of the matter with a character viewers actually knew. That one episode is better than any one I have seen of DC.
I agree...90210 was an influence in pretty much every teen show out there...so definitely influenced DC...just like DC heavily influenced OTH.
DC lacks neither music or basketball. DC was one of the first shows where music was prevalent...just look up cd sales for their second CD. As for basketball...look at the great breakfast club episode of season one. Also DC pretty much made the WB a network...along with Buffy, which definitely counts for something. It also made stars out of Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson. And DC made a rectangle comment long before OTH talked about "triangles plus one"...so thats definitely not original. And OTH is so over the top at times that it would seem to capture truly traumatic situations better...but DC deals with real human emotions better than OTH does. You can connect to the characters better because they are more like regular people than any of the characters in OTH.
What was the best cop show on TV from 1998 to 2008?

One Tree Hill definitely deserves more than the term "rip off," whether it be good or bad. There are many original aspects of OTH, that DC does not deserve the credit for.

Comparing "Dawson's Creek" and "One Tree Hill" is actually kind of depressing to me. The thing that makes me the saddest is how far downhill they both went in their later seasons. I loved the first season of both, but neither one has really stood the test of time. Not like "My So-Called Life" or even "90210". The thing that's really missing from both is that character we love to hate. Instead, they both have characters that I have just grown to hate (Hi Peyton & Joey). Can I vote that they both just kind of suck?
