So You Think You Can Dance: Cirque du Mark
The MTV animated shows were both popular but Daria's stories and characters were better developed. Dry, Drool, Witty, Smart, Deliciously Accurate when exposing the hypocrisy and ridiculous nature of humans- Daria ruled!
Watching an episode of Daria encapsulated the teen movie experience- nerd angst, ditsy cheerleaders, doofus jocks, edgy art chick, perverted sex guy, hyper guilt-ridden confused parents, smug principals, insipid teachers, demeaning after-school jobs, superficial college aspirations...Daria was a great show!
No it wasn't.
Forfeited Turn
Only **** bags like Daria.
What was the best cop show on TV from 1998 to 2008?

Lest not forget Quinn and that superficial fashion club!
Daria was sush a smart show. MTV at its best, really. A cartoon that was ahead of its time. It found a niche audience.
Beavis and Butthead did do America, though.

Daria is still my favorite cartoon ever. Does anyone know if the series has been released on DVD? (I don't think it has, but it doesn't hurt to check!)

I miss Daria. Great show. I pretty sure the Daria movie "Is it College Yet?" is out on DVD. Can't say the same for the actual show.

i agree Daria was the better show with characters that were more fully developed, like Jane Lane, the artsy best friend who as anti-pop culture, Quinn the slightly dimwitted, dying to belong sister, Helen the workaholic mother and Brittany the completly dimwitted cheerleader. I also think at it's core Daria was as much a condemation of everything that Beavis and butthead was, stupid, immature and without substance. Daria is by far the superior series here. without question.

Daria was vastly superior! Plus, Trent Lane was kind of hot. For a cartoon character, that is. Er, perhaps I've said too much...

Trent Lane WAS hot. Don't be ashamed to say it!

I'll let "Daria" itself tell you why it's not "Far superior" to B&B:
(the family is sitting at the kitchen table, preparing to eat dinner)
Jake - More penne a la pesto, anyone?
Helen - All right. You friend Jane asked you to help her make a poster.
Jake - If I ever find out who the sadist was who called today...
Helen - You can up with the idea of a pretty girl with an eating disorder.
Daria - Yup.
Helen - Daria, that is so... you.
Daria - Is that a compliment or an insult?
Jake - You know, if you refrigerate this stuff, the pesto kinda gets a little funky. It oxidizes or something. It's best eaten the day it's made. Now, who would like some more?
Helen - Jake, would you put down the damn macaroni and ask your daughter why she has to be so cynical all the time!
Jake - It's not macaroni, Helen!
Helen - She's supposed to be making a poster about student life, and she comes up with the most negative message she could think of.
Daria - It's not negative. It's supportive of students who don't want to be judged by their looks.
Quinn - Oh, come on Daria. People like that don't exist.
Helen - Jake, ask her why she can't be upbeat once in a while.
Jake - You see, Helen, if this was supposed to be macaroni and cheese, it would be very bad. But it's penne a la pesto, and judged by the standards of penne a la pesto, it's very good.
Helen - Jake, what the hell are you talking about? Are you listening?
Jake - Of course, sure. What I mean is, if this poster is supposed to be propaganda promoting student life, it would be very bad. But if it's supposed to be art expressing Daria's personal vision of student life, it's very good. See?
And...scene. The two shows had completely different goals. And let's not forget that B&B first aired at the time when MTV played mostly music videos. Their inclusion in the show was probably a big factor in its initial appeal to both the viewers and the MTV honchos who might not have given it a shot had it been solely an animated show about two morons.
Plus, I can argue that B&B was a great show by virtue of the simple fact that it begat Daria...

This is a tough call. I was never a fan of Daria--in fact I cringed every time the show came on--but HoneyBunny makes some good points. B&B was a slightly better show for me (though it wasn't my cup of tea), but I'm not 100% sold on Demetri's argument =)

Are you, um, like, Quinn's cousin or something?
jkcampbell 04/08/08
Can we call this a win already?
