So You Think You Can Dance: Cirque du Mark
The guy is very funny and he hasn't been in a show yet that I didn't like. Ed was great. Love Monkey was my favorite thing on TV for the eight weeks it aired. His episodes of Scrubs are always the best, and I started watching Eli Stone just for him.
He has great delivery. He's funny without being stupid. He's witty. A Tom Cavanagh guest spot might even make me a Desperate Houswives watcher.
While I agree that Tom Cavanagh is a good actor, I wouldn't watch a show just because he was in it. I did like Ed, but I don't think it would have been as good of show without Julie Bowen and their chemistry together. I found him funny in his episodes of Scrubs but his new show, Eli Stone, missed the mark. The story line is strange and writing is just too weak, neither of which is Tom's fault but him being in it does not make it a show to watch.
What? Eli Stone might be the most inventive and unique thing he has ever been a part of! I'm gonna be honest here: it has been a long time since I first posted this throwdown, so it might take me a bit to get back into the swing.
Anyway, the point is Tom Cavanagh has great delivery and timing no matter what role he is in. He plays a great goof ball (Scrubs), sympathetic character (Eli Stone), and combination of the two (Love Monkey & Ed). My point is not that you should be a devoted fan of everything he does. I am just saying anything he's in is worth checking out.
I'll give it to you that Eli Stone is unique...but in this case, I don't think that is a good thing. It's just not good comedy...its dumb humor. You have a lawyer that picks his cases due to visions he sees caused by his brain tumor. Now I'm not saying tv shows have to be realistic, but in this case its just a strange mix of unrealistic story lines and stupid humor. I tuned in to this show because of my addiction to law shows...and was disappointed.
So my point is that Tom Cavanagh might be a good actor but he has not chosen roles that show his comedic skills, with the exception of Scrubs. If he has these skills, such as great delivery and timing, he has not been in a role that showcased them.
This throwdown sucks. I'm losing and no one is voting. I concede without forfeiting.
What was the best cop show on TV from 1998 to 2008?
