-Radiohead's innovative pay what you want system exclusively on their website was a great idea
-The music is just as thoughtful as OK Computer and Kid A, but more mellow and more people-friendly
-It's their first official indie release
-It has received more critical acclaim than OK Computer and Kid A
-Every song is spectacular!

I gotta tell you, I like In Rainbows, but I don't feel the urgency to listen to it over and over again the way I do with Kid A and OK Computer. The "pay what you want" pricing plan was very cool. Unfortunately most fans are **** holes and chose to pay nothing, so you gotta think Radiohead might regret that a bit now. Besides, making your music free only makes it better if it isn't good enough to pay for in the first place.

It's not the fact that they let you pay what you wanted, but rather the innovation of the idea. Besides, I paid $24, and it was worth every penny and more. Radiohead's music has deeply matured into a more subtle exclamation of life's trials and tribulations. The mellow sound only accentuates this, moreso than the blips and blops of Kid A. I do agree that Kid A and OK Computer are exeptional albums, but think that In Rainbows is a grand statement of how far Radiohead has come since "Creep," and how they've matured into a legend. Without In Rainbows, Radiohead's music career so far would be incomplete.

No argument from me on your "legend" comment. They're today's Pink Floyd. I just think if you look at their whole catalog In Rainbows isn't all that impressive. I would rank it their 4th best album behind Kid A, OK Computer and even The Bends. Maybe even fifth when you throw in Hail to the Thief - but back to The Bends for a second. Everyone is so caught up on how innovative and triumphant Radiohead has become since the release of OK Computer that they tend to forget how great their straight ahead Rock and Brit Pop albums were.

OK, this seems to be a descision based on whether or not the voter likes In Rainbows or not. Below is my list of why it is better than all previous albums.
-Shows the band's full maturity by integrating thoughtfulness into its mellow, more complex sound (compared to the blippy beats of Kid A or the mainstream, straightforward sounds of "Creep" and "Just.")
-Innovative pay-what-you-please system
-Pulls its best together, The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, etc., and makes one full sound out of them all that perfectly expresses the band right now.
-Becomes even more unique business-wise by releasing on an indie label
-Who wasn't emotionally affected by "Videotape?"

I think you're trying to lecture rather than debate here. Of course people are going to judge whether or not In Rainbows is the band's best album based on whether or not they like it. How else do you suggest we judge it? I am going to address your points one by one.
1. It does have a complex sound, but honestly it's nothing new for Radiohead. You seem to be arguing that nothing they've done up to this point has been complex. Listen to Amnesiac.
2. I still don't see how that has any effect on whether or not In Rainbows is their best album. Pay what you please is nice, but it has no effect on the quality of the music.
3. That is a nice, wordy way of saying the exact same thing you said in your first point.
4. No it doesn't. You're gonna laugh at me, but since the OC hit it's peak of popularity we can't judge indie lables any differently than the big boys. That show brought indie rock into the mainstream. Plus, the internet makes all music more accessable. Finally, it's Radiohead! Their album would have sold a million copies no matter what label it was on.
5. It's a nice song, but it didn't reach me the way "High and Dry" did.

-of course everything they've done so far is complex. my point is that its maturity and uniquity comes from pulling each previous album together and expresses the overall best sounds radiohead has offered throughout their career in new songs that each has its own.
-the fact that it was released as an indie record, the band's first, and that an innovative paying system was used to release it makes the album unique and separated from the others
-High and Dry? Is that a joke? Videotape brought tears to my eyes! One of my friends had to turn it off to stop the deep, torturing emotion from pouring in.
