So You Think You Can Dance: Cirque du Mark
Paige was a witch/white-lighter so she could:
*orb to any place or plane in the known world
*call for objects (orb things & people) to her possession
*she could create and perform spells on her own
*she could heal others, eventually
*she had greater access/communication with the elders
*she had better connections with innocents because she was a former social worker
Paige came into her powers after the death of Prue so she knew that she was getting involved into some serious stuff but Paige was a gung-ho student of Wicca from the start and she always stood up for her personal self as well. She was funny, sexy, talented and caring.
And she replaced Shannen/Prue which is a tough act to follow but Rose McGowan did an excellent job.
I agree that Paige did a great job and I did love her, but I think the show would have been so much better had Prue stayed on it. I don't think any of the cheesy "dress up" episodes like the superhero episode for example would have happened, Shannen wouldn't have allowed the show to go down that path. Plus I think the original three had an awesome dynamic going that would have grown as the show continued.
I don't agree. Prue was always portrayed as the tough edged workaholic who had a hard time showing her emotions and she tried to keep a tight leash on her sisters. I'm not sure Phoebe would have had the guts to go for broke with Cole if not for having lost Prue. And in real life, I don't think the other actresses' would have gotten such meaty stories had Shannen stayed on. The 1st three seasons were pretty Prue heavy. I liked her but her departure gave everybody more room to breathe and break the rules.
And seasons 2 & 3 had some cheesy moments- Prue as Ms Hellfire, the fabulous but costume heavy All Halliwell's Eve, Prue as a man, Prue as a dog!, And notice- Shannen got the interesting transformations.
Paige's introduction made the Charmed Ones a true ensemble piece where all three sisters got to share the load. It allowed Phoebe & Piper to grow and evolve in ways that would not have happened had they not lost Prue. And Paige's wonderful character would not have been revealed. As a fan of the show from the beginning, I was shocked how much I grew to care and enjoy Paige's stories.
I agree that it was a great storyline to actually lose a sister and to go through that grieving process, but I think Phoebe and Piper would have grown and evolved either way because of getting older, getting better at their powers, and time passing.
As for Shannen's backstage drama, it might have made it a little more difficult on the set, but it also brought more media attention to the show, which it needed. Once Rose was settled on the show Charmed never really made the headlines anymore.
Yes there were some cheesy moments in the first couple of seasons, but most further the storyline, but tried to use gimmicks a little too much. Later on though the girls were put in sexy costumes for no reason other than to bring in a more male driven audience
Phoebe was a wonderful free spirit and her love affair with Cole was priceless. But her powers as a witch were wimpy.
Piper had the best powers for fighting, period. She was a great warrior and a great Earth Mother character, but sometimes she was a stick in the mud. She had a hard time being free and playful because she was so responsible and sensible.
Prue was a hard nosed control freak who had a hard time showing emotion, hence I had a hard time caring about her. I wanted her to be around for her sisters' sakes, that's all.
Paige had a fun personality AND she had great powers to boot! She was a witch and a whitelighter, so she had the best of both worlds, being able to do magic and to commune with the Elders. She was also just a cool chick who didn't take life too seriously.
So overall, I think Paige was special.
You seem more concerned about the cheesy costumes and silly premises of the overall show, especially as the seasons progressed. I agree with you. But that's not what my throwdown is about. I think even if Shannen had stayed on the show, there still would have been more cheesecake and goofy escapades. It's not Rose's fault. It's writers & producers.
Phoebe was actually my favorite character, she seemed the most real and was easy to relate to. I think it made it interesting that she didn't have an active power because she had to find ways around that by learning how to fight physically and it always put her in a more precarious situation if her sisters weren't there to protect her. Plus she had the most interesting love stories. Piper does have a cool power, but she did get boring trying to always be responsible and worrying about everyone else. I loved her in the earlier seasons when she wasn't in the older sister spot and was more unsure of herself.
Prue was hard on the outside because she remembered more of what the family had lost, like their mom dad and grams, and she felt all the responsibility to take care of her sisters. You got to see a softer side when she was with Andy or when one of her sisters got hurt. She was somewhat of a control freak but I thought that just gave her another interesting layer.
Paige did have cool powers because of her whitelighter abilities and she was fun, but she got annoying with being so perky all the time. Her character felt forced to be happy and crazy all the time, not many layers
What was the best cop show on TV from 1998 to 2008?

I stopped watching the show the second Paige showed up. While I love Rose McGowan that show began its decline the second they introduced the "spare" sister.

I'm surprised you think Paige is the best on Charmed. After our throwdown I'd have thought you'd pick Piper or Phoebe.
Shannon D was the worst! Pru was an ok character, but she makes her too bi****. Besides everyone wanted her off the show!
My fav is Phoebe! She's the sister I always admired & related to the most, and wanted to be like. Can't say that about others. That's my 2 cents.

I liked Pru the best as well, i think that it was a shame they killed her off and i wish that Shannon Doherty had stayed on the show--i would have been fine with them dumping either Alyssa Milano or Holly Marie Combs if it made room for Shannen Doherty to stay.
