Taylor was a good replacement for Marissa on the O.C.

I'm not saying that I didn't like Marissa, because I did (for the most part), and was routing for her and Ryan. And I was upset when they killed her off.

However, by making Taylor a main character and Ryan's new love interest, it made it easier to forget Marissa wasn't there. Plus she added a new comical angle.

I liked Taylor she was cute and funny but she didn't have the drama that Marissa had and sad but Ryan loved saving her all the time!

And their history! Marissa was there the day Ryan first came to the Cohens, I dont think anyone could replace her.

But the lack of soooo much drama was kind of appealing. Ryan's and Taylor's relationship was refreshing after everything that had happened.

And the way their relationship started, the uncertainty of it all...Taylor's obsessive attitude turning into something real....it was good stuff :) Especially the first kiss

I stopped watching when Marissa was killed off...and I found Taylor to be quite obnoxious...maybe she changed in season 4...but I despised her character...and Marissa was my favorite

oh yes, i despised her during third season as well....for most of it anyway, she was annoying. but she changed a lot in season four. even summer accepted her as her best friend.

i found the taylor personality overhaul to be waaay more unbelievable than any other OC characters, well except maybe caitlin, but then again they also aged her like 2 years...

anyway sidetracked i did like taylor by the end of the show, but it all felt so fake, manufacturing this new and improved taylor for ryan to fall in love with...i dunno, but her french husband was funny...

Taylor was a breath of fresh air. I hated Marissa by the time she died. I was glad to see her go.

sassy...agreed, i hated marissa by the end of s3, but remember how great she was in s1?? even in s2? at least i liked her before i hated her, it was reversed with taylor...in the end i did like her, but it took a lot of warming up...

I liked her throughout (well of course not at the beginning when she was working against everyone). Other than that she added character! And she was definitely not the most unbelievable character...that award has to go to Marissa.

Taylor was so much better than Marrissa. All that drama was SO annoying!

Mar142003_700_lg

more than anything, they both pale in comparison to summer, any day, any season, any episode...

agreed loglady

seriously? how can anybody like marissa more than taylor? third season, maybe. but anybody who'd pick marissa over taylor has apparently not seen fourth season.
and, yes, summer DEFINITELY outruns both of them... combined. but that is not to say that i don't love taylor. she added sooo much to the show. and marissa's storylines were repeating terribly. and i definitely did not buy the whole lesbian two-ep arc. just goes to show they could go nowhere else with her character. oliver was good the first time, but when oliver became johnny, it was getting much too old, much too fast.
taylor was everything the oc needed, and marissa was everything the oc didn't need: an overwhelming amount of boring drama. she was good first season, alright second season, and stale third.
fourth season was the best season, possibly other than the first. i do believe that this has a lot to do with taylor replacing marissa.

Mar142003_700_lg

i agree that season 4 was the best, but for me that had to do with getting kaitlin back, she was the marissa that marissa could have been...that arc with oliver was terrible, johnny was worse, alex was a killer, but the whole tre thing....god that killed me...now that i think about it for a show i love as much as the OC it really had some of the WORST arcs of any show...well any good show that is....

Mar252005_812d_lg

Marissa was my least-favorite character, hands-down. Lots of terrible arcs--I agree with loglady about that. Also, I can't stand when a show announces a "lesbian" storyline that lasts two episodes: "Let's watch two girls make out!"

Seth and Summer are what made that show great. The Seth-Ryan scenes, too. I never felt the scenes with Marissa had any real emotion or depth--just a lot of over-the-top acting that was supposed to be emotional and deep.
