So You Think You Can Dance: Cirque du Mark
I should start out by saying that I like Lewis Black, and I like The Root of All Evil. Unfortunately Black is out of his element on the show. He would be great on the show as a "lawyer," but as the "judge" he is really out of his element.
I don't think anyone (Lewis Black included) would tell you that Lewis Black is a great actor, so his line delivery isn't necessarily the best. Considering all of his lines in The Root of All Evil are scripted, he is at a real disadvantage.
The main thing that would improve this show is MORE Lewis Black ranting. The half-hour format yields a scant 20 minutes of show and all the segments are far too short.
I disagree. The Lewis Black on the Root of All Evil isn't the same Lewis Black from the Daily Show, and it certainly isn't the genius that is on stage at Lewis' stand up shows.
The show should find a more capable judge. Let Lewis play the role of a lawyer. I would love to see a debate between him and Andrew Daily or Patton Oswalt on that show.
I think you are making MY point. The way it is now, LB gets to debate BOTH of the "lawyers", which is perhaps the best segment of the show.
The PROBLEM is that this segment is only a couple of minutes. In a one-hour format, LB could debate each lawyer for a much longer time and thereby improve the show substantially.
No, he doesn't debate the lawyers. He simply asks them questions. Even if he were debating the lawyers, I think it would still leave something to be desired, but it would certainly play to his strengths more than his current role. Lewis Black is great on the Daily Show. He is an awesome stand up. He just isn't very entertaining in the role they have him in for Root of All Evil.
Okay. LB does not "debate" the lawyers. He offers his views twice, asks questions and responds to the lawyers. How this is different than debating them I cannot say as I see no distinction.
LB gets to do what he does best - rant and express his opinions - which generally coincide with my own. He just does not get to go on long enough because of the show's length.
The original premise here was that LB was the "worst part" of his show and that is STILL incorrect. The WORST part of the show is the short length.
What was the best cop show on TV from 1998 to 2008?

Yeah, D. The short length of the show drives me nuts. As soon as the comics start to get rolling, the episode is over. I love Lewis Black. Of course, he could do the whole thing himself and I'd be thrilled. I definitely can't agree that he's the worst part of the show. He's the reason why I turned the show on in the 1st place.

I think he's the best & funniest part of the show! How can you say you like him & the show but want less of his rants? That's the point!!!
